Mischa Barton fav Matthew Williamson to design H&M line

British designer Matthew Williamson, whose fans include Mischa Barton, Kate Hudson,  Gwyneth Paltrow and other celebrities, will design a special 2009 summer capsule collection for H&M.

Mischa Barton was spotted with Williamson recently during the opening of Atlantis, The Palm Resort in Dubai, where she was wearing one of his designs.

Starting with an exclusive women’s fashion range at selected H&M stores April 23, 2009, the collection will continue with summer pieces for men and women for summer available from mid-May in all H&M stores worldwide. In an exclusive for H&M, Wiliamson will debut his first-ever menswear pieces, an H&M press release said.

“It is an incredible opportunity to be working with H&M, creating a ‘Matthew Williamson for H&M’ capsule collection. I love the fact that H&M have created a new phenomenon in fashion through the pioneering concept of collaborating with high-end designers to create one-off limited edition capsule collections. I am thrilled that my creations for H&M will be accessible to and hopefully enjoyed by so many people around the world,“ Matthew Williamson said in an H&M press relese.

H&M Creative Advisor Margareta van den Bosch calls his style a “very contemporary London look.”

“It’s for people who want to look special, but his clothes can also be worn in a nonchalant way- you can really play around with them.”

Williamson, who burst onto the London fashion scene in 1997, was honored with an exhibition at the Design Museum in London last year “Matthew Williamson — 10 Years of Fashion.”
