13 Celebrities Who Have Gotten Themselves Kicked Off Of Airplanes

Reasons to wear a belt: On September 1, Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong was kicked off a Southwest flight because his pants were too baggy. And then he tweeted about it. Because that's what Twitter is for.

Generically attractive Josh Duhamel joined the ranks of celebrities who have been kicked off planes because of a Crackberry habit last December. While on a plane heading to Kentucky from New York, Duhamel pulled out his Blackberry and started texting when the plane had already hit the runway. An attendant asked him to turn it off; and surprise! He didn't. The price for his insolence? The plane turned around and went back to the gate, where Duhamel was subsequently given the boot. Don't text and fly, kids. Not even if you're dating Fergie.

Joan Rivers, it seems, has two names on her passport: Her showbiz name Rivers and her late husband's surname Rosenberg. Now, this most likely wouldn't be a problem in the States, because if you're going to pose as someone else in order to hijack a plane, Joan Rivers probably isn't your first choice of disguise; but in Costa Rica, it was a different story. In January of 2010, a security agent at one of the smaller airports in the country decided her passport-- with its two names-- looked suspicious and wouldn't let her board her flight back to Newark. Whoops. She managed to get back a day later, after finding someone willing to drive her seven hours to Costa Rica's main airport.

In 1994, Christian Slater tried to bring a gun on a plane. He was actually arrested before he made it onto the plane, so maybe technically he wasn't kicked off it; but he did end up missing his flight, as well as getting charged with possession of a weapon. I suppose it's a credit to airport security that he got nabbed in the terminal, rather than on the plane itself. Or something.

Back in the middle of July, Brooke Mueller was on a United flight from LA to Cancun that was about to take off when she started to feel sick and tried to run to the bathroom. The flight attendant naturally wouldn't let her go-- that's what airsickness bags are for-- so Brooke freaked out and started to get belligerent. Apparently she asked to be removed from the plane, but it's also possible that she got kicked off for the whole belligerence thing. She'd just started hanging out with Charlie Sheen again when this happened-- think he might be the cause of the mysterious illness that started the whole problem?

Dave Chappelle's tale of air-born woe takes the proverbial cake: While on a flight on a private jet bound for Ohio, the comedian "freaked out" according a witness (and yes, that's a technical term). He refused to put his seat belt on; then he walked into the cockpit, repeatedly asked how much longer the flight would be, and started grabbing the pilot's arms. Then -- according to sources -- Dave repeatedly walked into the cockpit, asking how much longer the flight would be, and started grabbing the pilot's arms. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Chappelle was deemed a safety risk and the plane made an emergency landing in Pittsburgh. A rep for Chappelle tried to explain away the incident by saying that he ate something that didn't sit well with him and that the bathroom on the plane was "not the kind he needed." I'm not even really sure what that means. Then again, maybe I don't really want to know.

In 2009, the Hoff apparently got drunk enough to be deemed "unfit to travel" by British Airways. His rep claims, of course, that he wasn't drunk-- he was just having a bad reaction to some pain medication he had taken for an arm injury-- but come on, Hoff. Don't lie to the puppies.

Okay, so maybe Huffington Post creator Arianna Huffington wasn't quite kicked off a plane due to her Blackberry addiction, but she probably would have been were they not already in the air. On a United Express flight from Washington Dulles to New York, Huffington refrained from turning her Blackberry off after the flight crew had made the standard "please keep all cell phones in the off position" announcement. But it gets better: Another passenger started to heckle her about it, standing up and saying, among other things, "Hey, lady! Don't you speak English?" (obviously, the passenger doesn't read HuffPo). Then, of course, THAT passenger refused to sit down when he was told to. Once the plane hit the ground in New York, both offenders were escorted off the plane and given a stern talking-to. That'll learn ya.

No one ever claimed that Brody Jenner was a good role model, but just to drive that point home, here's a little anecdote for you: In 2007, The Hills star refused to turn off his Sidekick, in spite of the flight staff asking him to do so. And then, for some bizarre reason, a bunch of other passengers on the plane decided that if Brody Jenner wasn't turning off his electronic thingy, neither were they. And then they got mean about it, which resulted in all of them getting booted off the plane by airport police. Moral of the story: If you're going to choose a celebrity to emulate, choose one who's not Brody Jenner.

This one became rather a big deal when it happened in February of 2010: Kevin Smith was kicked off a Southwest flight for being too hefty. He subsequently launched a Twitter attack on the airline-- specifically on the captain who gave him the boot. Southwest, for the record, apologized.

We've heard this one before. And we STILL think it's weird.

No, she didn't kicked off her plane for wearing this crazy, crazy hat. Nope: She called a bunch of kids on her flight from Palm Beach to New York "little fuckers." Loudly. And with feeling. And even though the flight attendants offered to move her to a different seat, she just kept screaming. The plane's takeoff was called off, it turned right around, and Ivana was removed from it. Because that's what you do in the face of a 5-year-olds-- I mean, a 60-year-old's-- temper tantrum.

I never thought I'd hear myself say this, but this one isn't actually Paris' fault: Last December, the entire plane Paris was on was evacuated when a 4-inch serrated knife was found in a seat pocket. It ended up being a box cutter which belonged to the crew, but hey. You never know. It could have been this kitten's. And no one would blame it if it was.
