Although this serial novel may be a bit lesser known, the BBC miniseries was great. It's greatness may have quite a bit to do with Matthew Macfadyen (Arthur), who also played Mr. Darcy in Pride and Prejudice opposite Keira Knightley.
Not exactly what Dickens' intended, but this version of his novel, Great Expectations is really hot. Even if 'Pip' is 'Finn' and 'Miss Havisham' is 'Ms. Dinsmoor.'
Thanks to this animated film from my youth, I still picture Dickens as a mouse.
This 1946 version stuck closer to the book than the Ethan Hawke edition, and was far less green.
"Please sir, I want some more." Oh, how this darling little pickpocket pulls at the heartstrings! Pickpockets these days don't quite look like Oliver.
Michael Caine as Scrooge and Kermit's nephew Robin as Tiny Tim? Yes, please.

Have to say that the Muppets Christmas Carol will win out anytime I’m debating the best of Dickens’ books to movies. And by anytime I mean people rarely ask me for my opinion on the matter.
