A look back at Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie in 2008

It’s the end of 2008 with a whole new year on the way and I always like to be corny and take inventory of what happened over the past year. Let’s look at some of the big moments from Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie over the last 12 months.

January 2008 – A sad start to the month as we remembered the anniversary of when Marcheline Bertrand tragically passed away, and meanwhile, the twin rumor mill had already started (little did we know it was to be true!).

February 2008 – Angelina Jolie confirmed her pregnancy, not with words but rather with an obvious belly at the Independent Spirit Awards!

March 2008 – While people like Paris Hilton spend a fortune on partying, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie gave over $8 million to charity via the Jolie-Pitt Foundation

April 2008 – Brad Pitt brought out the screaming, swooning fans when he appeared on American Idol, helping raise money for Make It Right. Later in the month, the whole family settled in France.

May 2008 – On one of my favorite outings of the year, Brad, Angelina, Pax, and Zahara headed to the beach with U2′s “The Edge”. Later, at Cannes, Jack Black accidentally let the cat out of the bag and confirmed that Angelina was carrying twins. Also, May was the month that Angelina wore one of my favorite dresses ever:

Angelina Jolie Cannes

June 2008 – Not so much a Jolie-Pitt event, but one of my favorite discussions that we had here on PittWatch, we all talked about the disappointment that Angelina expressed over a lack of black Disney princesses. Brad slipped quietly out of France one evening to go enjoy a Radiohead concert and made us all giggle with his head-bopping dance moves.

July 2008 – Angelina Jolie checked into the hospital and thus began BabyPittWatch 2008! Then of course, the biggest Jolie-Pitt news of the year came when Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline were finally born!

August 2008 – Wee Knox and Vivienne Jolie-Pitt made their world photo debut courtesy of People.com and “awwww” was heard around the globe. Later in the month, a whopping 350 of you entered my Burn After Reading giveaway which made me so very happy! By the end of the month, Brad Pitt made a solo appearance for the Venice Film Festival’s red carpet while Angelina remained home with the kids.

September 2008 – We got to further enjoy the humorous side of Brad as we were entertained by the George Clooney – Brad Pitt “Bromance” and learned the “reason” that George is not the twins’ godfather. Not like Brad and Angelina weren’t busy at all, but they also managed to set up a $2 million health center in Ethiopia.

October 2008 – Angelina made a stunning post-baby red carpet debut for Changeling. Brad had a great month between continuing his success with Make It Right and publishing his personal photos of his family in W.

November 2008 – Brad showed his political preferences by partying it up in Chicago to celebrate Barack Obama being elected the new president. We also had what ended up being the biggest discussion thread here on PittWatch when we talked about the infamous “uncool” comment and later got to see the emotional side of Angelina as she teared up while discussing her mother. As if that weren’t enough for one month, we also saw Brad return to the Oprah Winfrey show. They ended the month by returning to New Orleans, their favorite home.

December 2008 – Brad and Angelina hit the red carpet in New Orleans for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Later, Brad appeared on Ellen and convinced Ellen to send male strippers to George Clooney (that still makes me laugh)! Both Brad and Angelina were nominated for Golden Globes and SAG Awards. Brad ended the month and the year with a great showing at the box office and an interview wherein he talked about his great relationship with Angelina.

And so there ends 2008 for Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. Right now the couple and their children are all laying low and probably planning their own private New Year’s celebration. What does 2009 hold for the Jolie-Pitt family? If 2008 is any indication, next year can be just as fantastic as this past year has been!

Happy new year to all my wonderful PittWatch readers – see you in 2009!

joliepittfanatic. In my last comment I wrote that I wish Brad and Angie would have baby news at the end of this year but I didn´t mean it literally. And especially not at the expence of Angie´s health. The C-sections sure have taken their toll on her body and she must recover from them in peace. But maybe one day in the future they´ll have another bio baby. Right now they are starting to concentrate on their next adoption process – which like you said – will take months to complete. And so what if Knox and Viv are their last bio children? Brad has now everything he´s ever wanted in his life:a beautiful girlfriend, six adorable children (three of them bio children) and most especially he has love in his life again. God bless the JPs always!

UNDER MOD- My favorite J-P quotes from 2008.

  3. By joliepittfanatic

Here are some of my favorite J-P quotes from 2008:

“I’ve heard Maddox explain to Z: ‘No, Z, remember, you were in that nice African woman’s belly. I was in that nice Cambodian woman’”- Angie on Mad’s explainaton of adoption.

“Sooner or later it will be the kids who ask us to. You know, they see films and start asking questions. Such as, ‘Why are Shrek and Fiona married and you’re not?’”- Angie on marrying Brad

“Why should I stop?”- Brad to Oprah on having more kids.

    and my personal favorite:

“It’s GREAT for the sex life!”- Angie on sex during pregnancy. Leave it to Angie to say something like that! LOL!

Kati, I doubt we’ll be hearing any pregnancy announcements from the J-Ps this year. Assuming they begin the adoption process later this month after Knox and Viv turn six months old, and it takes close to a year to complete, J-P kid number 7 probably won’t join the family until somewhere around Novemeber.

Since Angie has said they add to their family only when the newest member or members are completely “absorbed” into the family, I doubt she’ll get pregnant right after adopting. Probably it’ll be at least a good six months to a year after the adoption that Angie will get pregnant again if they do decide to have another bio child.

I also doubt they’ll have more bio kids, due to the fact that Angie’s had two C-sections and those take quite a toll on the body, plus, with each subsequent pregnancy after a C-section, the risk of complications increases. Therefore, I strongly suspect that Knox and Viv are their last bio babies.

A detailed example of the good the JPs do -

The Jolie-Pitt Foundation, Morris and the private donor match every donation the fund receives 4 to 1 up to $50,000.

“Care To Learn is about immediate funding for emergency needs that are disrupting their classroom experience, Doug Pitt said.

“Upon meeting those needs, my greatest satisfaction is restoring a child’s respect and dignity to walk amongst their peers.”

Care to Learn has provided 2,880 backpacks of food from September through December, said Nancy Fazzino, executive director for Springfield Public Schools Foundation.

Since the program began last year, it has provided vouchers for: 69 pairs of pants/jeans and sweaters, 41 packages of socks and underwear, 35 hygiene products, 20 pairs of shoes, 70 coats, 15 pairs of gloves and 15 winter hats.

The fund has also processed 150 bus vouchers used for emergency bus transportation and to transport the families to Wal-Mart to redeem the vouchers if they do not have a car or are unable to afford transportation.

“In the past two months we have seen an increase in the number of voucher requests from the schools, Fazzino said. “Care to Learn has truly made a difference in the lives of our most vulnerable students.

“This fund makes it possible to help those children directly and discreetly. The main thing is these children come to school feeling good about themselves and ready to learn on a more level playing field because their most basic needs are being met,” Fazzino said.

“With all that is going on with the economy, I predict an increase in the need in the near future. As I review the requests, almost without exception the requests we have received in the last couple of weeks were due to parents losing their jobs or hours being cut. This fund is a true blessing for our children.”

The Care to Learn project was a natural choice for St. John’s Clinic’s Force for Good, said Donn Sorensen, St. John’s Health System executive vice president.

“It’s troubling to see what some of the kids in our community are going through,” said Sorensen. “We felt the Care to Learn program was a very worthy beneficiary of our Force for Good efforts because it helps kids immediately when they need clothing, food or other necessities.”

A $50,000 gift to buy emergency needs for Springfield Public Schools children has become a $250,000 gift, instead, with a match from the Jolie-Pitt Foundation and other philanthropists.

St. John’s Clinic physicians and co-workers raised the first $50,000 through their Force for Good campaign, directed to the Foundation for Springfield Public Schools’ Care to Learn fund. The $200,000 match, which will be available in April, was offered by the founders of the Care to Learn fund.

Local businessman Doug Pitt, the Jolie-Pitt Foundation (which includes actors Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt); local philanthropist Jim D. Morris and a private donor started the Care to Learn fund with the Foundation for Springfield Public Schools to support schools and students in meeting basic needs.

The needs can include food, health care and hygiene products. The fund so far has provided staple items such as underwear, socks and other personal hygiene supplies to 300 students in schools throughout the district.

The Jolie-Pitt Foundation, Morris and the private donor match every donation the fund receives 4 to 1 up to $50,000, the news release said.

Since it began in 2003, the Force for Good, a fund within St. John’s Foundation for Community Health, has raised more than $600,000 for local charities. Funds come from personal donations of physicians and staff and from fundraising activities such as bake sales and special events.

In December 2007, St. John’s Clinic Force for Good was chosen as the winner of the 15th annual Modern Healthcare Magazine Community Spirit of Excellence Award. The Spirit of Excellence Award honors organizations and individuals that go beyond what is expected in serving their patients and communities.

A Happy, Peaceful and Prosperous New Year to Sherry and all the Pittwatchers who make this such a joyful place. Every time I go away it seems like I’ve come back from another planet – I miss you all a lot, but can’t clone myself to be both with my family and with Pittwatchers (we did see CCOBB and Changeling!). The magic eco-scarf didn’t appear in time either in Oakland or San Diego so it’s not with me in NOLA, but next time…I do have my pink Project MIR totes with me.

Sherry, thank you so much for this recap of the JP’s year – it’s a great idea! They do so much in so little time, plus we’re so busy ourselves that it’s easy to forget how much they accomplish: personally, their family, humanitarian projects including trips, philanthropic donations, acting careers/box offfice, awards, other benchmarks in their lives. The Pittwatchers who keep track of special things like Neer’s quotes can add quotes from the year, etc. In the interest of balance, we could also note the top challenges the JPs faced, e.g., NYT hit piece against Angelina with its consequent ripples – including the, IMO, hit piece by CNN’s Howard Kurtz’ Reliable Sources.

JMHO, I’d be very happy if the rest of the JP children were adopted. Angelina said, before Brad, how she knew of so many children around the world needing adopting.

Happy New Year to all PittWatch readers! And thanks Sherry for this wonderful site! It´s hard to believe how fast the year 2008 went by. And what a year it was for the Jolie-Pitt family. It´s great that the family grew with two beautiful little babies. Knox and Vivienne are another living proves of their parents´ undying love for one another. It´s hard to believe that soon they´ll be six months old! And the older children have appearantly adjusted to the babies just wonderfully. Hopefully the family will grow during 2009 with another adopted child (probably from Africa). And I wouldn´t be surprised at all if this happy couple will have another baby news at the end of this year! It would be a perfect start for 2010 if Angie and Brad would be expecting another bio child! God bless the JPs!

Do you guys realize that it was about a year ago this month that the rumors first started floating that Angie was pregnant with twins (granted, there were a few pregnancy rumors floating around in December and even November, but Janaury 2008 was when they really started to pick up)? And now Knox and Viv are nearly six months old! :)

Thank you Sherry for the run down of what 2008 has been like for the Jolie-Pitts. I am new here and I like all the comments about this family. They are wonderful and generous couple and I’m sure 2009 will even be a better year for them. They deserve it. God bless the JPs.

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL JP FANS.

  16. By joliepittfanatic

Oh, and I already have one 2009 predication for the J-Ps: J-P kid number 7, a little girl adopted from somewhere in Africa.

  17. By joliepittfanatic

Sherry, I believe Maddox was with the family on the May beaching outting with “The Edge”. He was just mostly keeping to himself, so he wasn’t in most of the photos. That said, I want to tell you how HUGELY impressed I am with the way you handled mentioning the “uncool” comment.

You mentioned it as simply as possible, without actually bringing up the person who said it (since you didn’t, I’m not going to, either!), and without elaborting on the comment. Thank you for being so classy about it! :)
