Alan Jackson Debuts "Sissy's Song"

CMT debuted what is sure to be Alan Jackson’s next hit single, Sissy’s Song. It’s the fourth single released from his Good Times album, and holds a lot of special meaning for Alan and his family.

The beautiful ballad is dedicated to Leslie “Sissy” Fitzgerald, who worked in the Jackson household and with Alan for many years. She died in a motorcycle accident in May 2007, leaving behind her husband (who also works for the Jacksons), as well as a son and daughter.

Jackson wrote the song after a restless night and gave it to the Fitzgerald family for the funeral:

“I didn’t sleep for a while,” said Jackson. “So, I sat down one day and wrote this song and after that I felt all right. A lot of people told me how much it made them feel better and helped them get through it a little easier, so I was very proud of it.”

The video was shot at the Bear Creek Church in Culleoka, Tennessee, and was actually a place of worship and safety for Confederate soldiers during the Civil War.

I live in a small city in Canada, Nova Scotia, called Sydney. I work at our local Cancer Centre, and I’ve lost both parents and my father and mother-in-law in the past 4 years. So you can imagine what this song means and does for me. It is truly a heart warming and beautiful song. It touches my heart and soul.

I buried my sister, Sissy, today. She has had a difficult life filled with pain and hardships due to a brain tumor years ago that left her more childlike in many ways. Unfortunately, the radiation she had caused her to have cancer which was discovered 4 weeks ago. She has lived with me for many years and now she is gone. This song was played at her service and will probably help me in the healing process. Thank you so much for the gift of this song.

What a Beautiful perfect song, My wife of 20 years died unexpectily March 12, 2009, at the very young age of 45, we have 3 kids and a Grand Baby. This song is perfect and although the pain is bigger than I could ever describe, this song just makes it a little easier. Alan…Thank you.

  11. Priscilla

Hello, my name’s Priscilla. This song has touched so many people in different ways. My friend lost her father who was about 60 years young to cancer about 2 1/2 months ago and this song is a sound of relief that he’s ok for us. We even saw a halo above a picture of his in the living room where no light hits. God bless the families who have lost loved ones, may he give strength to the one’s losing their battle now, and may the deceased rest in piece. <3 Amen.

  14. Sam

I lost my mom 11 years ago, then just 2 years later lost my sister unexpectedly at the age of 34. She left behind a husband and 2 children. This song means so much to me. Although I still bear a great amount of pain, when I hear this song it makes me cry, but then it makes me smile. I know my mom and sister would both say, “don’t worry about me” This past year my sister lost her son in an awful accident. My family has endured such grief over the years. This song is the greatest song written. Alan, you are my idol. 10 years ago, hearing Alan Jackson converted me to a true country music fan! You’re the greatest and thank you for your wonderful music!

I lost my son 6 yrs ago, in a car accident. He was only 4. I don’t cry uncontrollably, and feel like my whole world is gone anymore, but it still hurts in a way that no one will ever understand. After coming to terms with his death and thinking it was god’s will, I lost faith two yrs ago, am in the process of finding it again, I hope. Your song helps.. Reminds me of how I felt yrs ago when I was “sure” he went to a better place. Thank you for being such a wonderful person Alan!!! I’ve loved you since I was a little girl. I’m from GA, so I grew up on the chattahoochee ;) Much love and strength to “Sissy’s” family…

  16. Sheri

I lost my beautiful 23 month old granddaughter on Easter Sunday this year, to a drowning accident. Arianna was a bright and happy, smiling little girl. She is gone now to Heaven to be with the son I lost 26 years before on the day she was born. They are happy together, in God’s hand. While this song makes me cry, I also feel so calm and peaceful hearing it. Thank you for releasing this song at just the right time to make my life a little easier.

A friend gave me the lyrics to this song and told me to read them. I read them and I cried. You see I lost my sister which I called sissy on March 7, 2008 due to her estranged husband kidnapped her and shot her and then turned around and shot himself. We live in a small town and it was the talk of the town for along time. So it was very hard to take. My mother passed away in 2000, my grandma in 2001, my father in 2006 and then my sister in 2008. I am glad that other people feel the same as me.

I lost my best friend this morning from a long battle with cancer, she also happened to be my children’s cousin. She left behind a 14 yr old daughter, a husband, mother and father and one sister. And many more countless family members and friends. After I received the news of her passing, I took my husband to work and on the drive home, Sissy’s song came on the radio. It made me stop and think that my friend isn’t in any pain anymore. Thank you Alan Jackson for this song, it really helps those in need. I want to have it played at her funeral.

I lost my Mother on Mothers Day 2009 after a long battle with cancer. I had only heard this song just a week before. After a conversation with my siblings about this song we only saw fit to play it at her service. I think this song helps us a little at a time just with the words and meaning behind them. Dont worry about me. That is something my mom had always said. Now I know she is looking down saying just that.
