American Idol season 7 cast-off, Amanda Overmyer, stopped by to chat with Ellen Degeneres this morning. Of course, they talked about Amanda’s run on the show, why she thought she was eliminated and whether Simon Cowell seems meaner this year (I think the opposite, actually!). Amanda also sang “I Hate Myself For Loving You.”
She keeps saying that she thinks she got eliminated for being so “different” and I agree that she’s not “typical” but neither were Bo Bice, Taylor Hicks or Chris Daughtry (especially Taylor). So, I’m kinda getting tired of hearing that…
Watch the interview and Amanda’s performance:

I agree, we need different! The cookie cutter singers are getting boring! Yeah, they have great voices but I want something I can’t get from the next guy! Blake was “different”, Ruben was “different” as was Taylor. It’s not the “oddness”, for lack of a better work, but the charisma that keeps people voting.
I think Amanda will do well on her own.
She wouldn’t have gotten voted off if she’d been able to sing like that every week! She got voted off because her performances got worse and worse and worse…missed notes, karaoke style arrangements. Idol is as much a contest in stamina as a singing contest, and she just didn’t cut it. I am a fan, but “different” had little to do with her being voted off, imho.
