Teen Mom fans have learned Amber Portwood isn’t very good at self control. She hit her boyfriend knowing the footage would end up on national TV. She’s easily distracted when studying for her GED test. And after being put on probation she still turned to drugs, landing herself in jail this December. Yet whether Amber has her freedom for the next five years or ends up behind bars might be dependent on her infrequently exercised self control.
Amber has accepted a plea deal that would mean she has to sped half a decade in jail, unless she successfully completes the Madison County Drug Court program. Whether this deal is officially on the table will be decided by a judge on February 6th.
While it might not be in Leah’s best interest to spend the next five years separated from her mother, it seems like Amber’s gotten a lot of second chances. Maybe a shorter sentence she must serve would be more effective in motivating her to get her life together then the threat of jail time she might never have to serve. Whatever happens, I hope her legal troubles will motivate her to be a better mother to Leah.
