American Idol 7 Top 8 – Michael Johns

Michael Johns was up first.  He sang “Dream On” and it was good.  I didn’t particular love the higher notes towards the end but he is trying.  Randy said it wasn’t the best and Michael mentioned that he was in America to follow his dreams (it was a bit of a Kristy Lee Cook moment, lol).  Paula said he was unbelievable and that it fit him perfectly.  Simon said it was a very good performance but he thought it was a little bit “wannabe-ish.”

What a blower! I’m totally shocked right now. I did not expect him to get the boot tonight! What a shoker! What a shame,

Last week Michael was incredible…I wish he would have stuck with a more bluesy, soulful song that he does so well. He didn’t cut it trying to belt out Aerosmith’s famous high notes – but then I thought all the performers last night were awful. The best in my, and many others I’ve spoken with, was Kristy Lee, so what does that show?! Wish Michael would try some U2 songs – his voice has that emotional resonance similar to Bono (my fav) and he would do fantastic – or Donny Hathaway would be a great choice. Hopefully next week will be back on track for my fav – Michael.
