Syesha Mercado sang “I Believe” by Idol winner, Fantasia, and it was okay for me but not more than that. Sorry. Randy didn’t feel like she connected with the song like Fantasia did (Syesha started to argue), Paula said she loved it and Simon said it was good but lacked Fantasia’s emotion.

American Idol 7 Top 8 - Syesha Mercado

[...] the judges wouldn’t agree, I thought Syesha Mercado turned out one of the best performances of the night with Season 3 winner Fantasia’s “I Believe,” which was her winning song four years ago. Syesha may not have a realistic chance of winning Season [...]
Syesha’s performance was forgettable. In fact, when I went to watch the show a second time (I always record them), I had totally forgotten that Syesha even sang. I think Syesha needs to go home during the next elimination.
In my review it was one of the top performances of the night. She sang it with a lot of conviction. And she sang it well. It was at least as good as Fantasia’s performance.
Syesha has been consistently good every performance and the judges have totally been unfair. She is the best female singer of the seven,
yet with consistant good vocals, she is not given
credit. Looks great, dresses well and has great
stage presence. Love her!!
I have to totally agree with Jane Craig. Sometimes I think its me, I don’t know what everyone is listening to. I think Syesha has a beautiful voice and Fantasia had to get dramatic with her presentation because she can’t sing. Well I shouldn’t be surprised everyone loves Jason Castro – so there you go. Teens now love their men to look like pretty women and Jason is pretty.
In my opinion it is not about a popularity contest. It’s an entertainment contest. Singing is part of that. But Kristy is gorgeous and that’s part of it too. Jason is sensitive. Syesha is a great vocalist and sings with conviction. It’s about the things that excite people the most and that’s slightly different from just being popular.
