American Idol 8 Contestant Joanna Pacitti Disqualified

Yesterday night our lovely American Idol judges announced our top 36 contestants for season 8 and hopeful Joanna Pacitti was one of them. Unfortunately for her, they have decided to take back their decision and have instead given the spot to contestant Felicia Barton.

33rd Annual People's Choice Awards - Arrivals

The reason Joanna was disqualified was due to an already extensive music career. FOX put out a press release saying, “It has been determined that Joanna Pacitti is ineligible to continue in the competition. ‘American Idol’ contestant Felicia Barton has replaced Ms. Pacitti as part of the Top 36.”

According to her Wikipedia and IMDB page (yeah, that’s right), Joanna had been signed to A&M records and has given her voice talents on soundtracks for movies such as Legally Blonde and Bratz. She also appeared in an episode of What I Like About You playing Amber, a singer.

Additionally, she had a single that hit radio waves in 2006 called “Let It Slide.” Britney Spears covered her song “Out From Under” which Pacitti sang for the Bratz soundtrack. Britney used it on her most recent album, Circus.

By the way, the photo of Joanna on the right is from when she was invited to the People’s Choice Awards in 2007.

Yeah, I think it’s safe to say she had a bit more of an advantage over the other contestants. Should Joanna have been sent home?

This was all just to get press going about her…the entire thing is just spin to get people to know her name…check her out and give her a career again. And it worked.

I think that she should have gotten the boot. Do you know how much that she did! She almost had her own album! She had a hit single and Britney Spears used one of her songs. I think that is a total advantage. It’s unfair. Why did she try out i she had all of this going for her. She doesn’t need idol.

I agree that she shouldn’t have gotten as far as she did. That’s crazy! I knew she had some experience, but I had no idea how much.

My understanding is that Idol is looking for “unknown and undiscovered” talent. Since Taylor Hicks was droped from his contract, should he be elegible to compete? Joanna had close personal relationships with producers of Idol. She never should have able to even try out.
