Kris Allen sang another of my favorite songs “To Make You Feel My Love” (can you tell I love Garth Brooks?) and I was speechless and riveted by him for the first time. That could be a single on the radio right now! I LOVED it!!!!!!!!
Paula said she was pleasantly surprised and said it was an honest, pure and vulnerable performance. Simon thought it was terrific, the song choice was great and he was completely in control of it. Randy said that he loved that he went out on a limb to have a tender moments. Kara said that it wasn’t even “country” it was beautiful (Paula added that it was “Kris Allen”).

To be honest, I was not at all familiar with a Garth Brooks version of the song (or Billy Joel, etc.). I only knew the Bob Dylan version, and then the most recent take by Adele. So I can not comment on whether Kris’s stripped-down take was more truthful to Garth’s than the original.
I guess I was just slightly surprised that not once in the two shows this week the fact that it was a Dylan song was acknowledged. They made a point of discussing Adam’s take on Ring of Fire — which was identified as a Johnny Cash song. It wasn’t until last night that Randy took the time to mention Jeff Buckley.
Just some observations . . .
This was the Garth Brooks version, though. Truthfully, if we were to list the original artist, rather than the one with whom the performed version is related, these posts would be very long. “This is based on the Ben McKenzie version of the Gary Jules version of the Tears for Fears original song ‘Mad World’”. I guess it could be done but I don’t always do it.
Thanks for making sure we were educated, though. It is important to acknowledge the original artist of any song. :)
You do realize that the original artist was not Garth Brooks? That Make You Feel My Love is a Bob Dylan song?
