American Idol Commercial Featuring Carrie Underwood

American Idol has another promotional ad for the upcoming season and, this time, it features Carrie Underwood.  Watch it here:

I love that, like the one with David Cook, it reminds viewers of where it all began which is a nice way to also help them remember why the show is worth watching.  However, I understand why they chose to use Carrie’s “Just a Dream” in the background but the actual song’s meaning is not relevant to her success after Idol and, because of how powerful those lyrics are, it almost made me cringe to think the song was used to promote a television show.  Maybe it’s just the holidays making me more sensitive but that’s how I feel.  What do you think?

It is a good promo featuring a girl from her AI beginnings, progressing to an award winning singer. It shows what can happen to a contestant and legitimizes the AI selection process. (JMO, we have not always gotten in right, but we sure did with Carrie.) Before I watched the clip I thought maybe the “dream” was winning AI and I was happy to see the song was not taken out of contexts.
BTW, one of my favorite Carrie performances on AI was at the finales when she sang “Angels Brought Me Here”. It still makes me cry.

I don’t know, I don’t think it’s too bad. I mean I can understand why they would use it, but they should have chosen something like A Moment Like This or something more positive.

Carrie Underwood is the most amazing singer in the entire world she is what country music should be and for American Idol to pick her for their recent commercial-is the best idea they will ever have-GOOOOOOO CARRIE U ROCK

the promo is ok… i have nothing really to say. i guess its a smart idea to show old winners and say that “american idol actually works”… i think the best/funniest promo so far is still the bikini audition.

They chose it b/c she sang it at the event shown where she won best female vocalist and that evening is the point of reference for the clip. Plus it’s her latest non holiday and original single song. They are also using the chorus shown to highlight Carrie going from a college girl with big dreams to becoming a true superstar in country music as an example of the show’s transformational power and ability to discover big time talent. It does takes the song out of context, but I don’t find it too bothersome and they’re really promoting Carrie, and the fact that AI can discover such talent as the draw for viewers more than the song itself.
