I don’t usually cover American Idol. My fellow b5media blogger Jeanne does a fantastic job of covering it on Idol Stalker. But I just have to comment on the big announcement that Ellen Degeneres has been named the fourth American Idol judge. I’m thrilled!
First of all, I absolutely love Ellen. She’s always kind and fair and after seeing how well she handled being a guest judge this summer on So You Think You Can Dance, I know she will be fantastic for the show.
It’s true that she’s not a professional in the music business, but she explained on her talk show today that she will be the voice of music fans. They are the people who buy the music and will ultimately decide which singer will win. She is not always fond of Simon Cowell’s caustic remarks and after seeing her temper Nigel Lythgoe’s criticism of Evan this summer on SYTYCD, I know she will do the same for the singers on Idol.
I applaud the decision to make her the newest judge on the show. And I can’t wait to see what a great job she’ll do! Hurray for Ellen!
I’m thrilled too Lynn! I love Ellen and I think she’ll be a great add! She’s funny but you know she’ll be a pro about it. And I’m SURE she’ll have some great comedic responses to Randy and Simon! Love it!
