American Idol Season 8 Top 36 Performances

Tonight, the Top 36 from the eighth season of American Idol are performing “Hits from the Billboard Hot 100.”  After the votes, only three contestants will move on.  It’s crazy to see the judges’ panel so… full.  What do you think of seeing four judges up there?  And what do you think of Ryan Seacrest’s new look?  jackie tohn top 36 american idolJackie Tohn, the 27-year-old from Silver Lake, California (audition city: New York, NY) chose to sing “A Little Less Conversation” and I was not impressed.  I thought it was a bad song choice and the delivery wasn’t great to me either.  I know she tried to get some energy into it at the end but it didn’t work for me.  The judges liked her performance even though the vocals weren’t great.ricky braddy top 36 american idol 8

Nashville, TN native, Ricky Braddy, (26 years old, auditioned in Louisville, KY) chose to tackle “A Song For You” and I was pleasantly surprised by how good his voice was.  It’s too bad he wasn’t featured more during the audition rounds because I feel less emotionally invested with him than I do with some of the other guys.  Either way, he did a really good job.

alexis grace top 36 american idol 8
Alexis Grace (21 years old from Memphis, TN Audition: Louisville, KY) sang “Never Loved a Man” and it was really good.  Time will tell if the song choice was good enough to keep her in the competition but I really do like her a lot!

brent keith top 36 american idol 8

Technical issues made the start of Brent Keith’s performance a little awkward but, fortunately, they got things under control so that we could see his tape reel.  The 28-year-old from Blanchester, OH (auditioned in Louisville, KY) chose to sing “Hick Town” and I’m not sure it was a good song for tonight even though I do kinda like his voice.

stevie wright top 36 american idol 8

One of my early favorites, Stevie Wright, sang “You Belong With Me.”  The 16-year-old from Phelan, California (auditioned in Phoenix, AZ) chose the song because it’s young but I’m sorry, almost none of it was in tune.  I’m so sad.  She can do so much better than this!
anoop desai top 36 american idol 8

I love 21-year-old Anoop Desai from Chapel Hill, NC (auditioned in Kansas City, MO) chose to sing “Angel of Mine” and, again, I really enjoyed it.  He had a couple pitchy moments but, overall, it was a good performance. casey carlson top 36 american idol 8

Casey Carlson picked “Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic” and I think the 20 year-old from Minneapolis, MN made a mistake (audition: Kansas City, MO).  I really disliked it and I just don’t understand why she chose that song.

michael sarver top 36 american idol 8My absolute favorite this year, 27-year-old Michael Sarver from Jasper, TX (auditioned from Phoenix, AZ) chose to sing “I Don’t Want to Be” and I think it was a bad song choice.  His voice is bigger than that song :(Ann Marie Boskovich top 36 american idol season 8Ann Marie Boskovich (22 years old from Nashville, TN and auditioned in Jacksonville, FL) chose to sing “Natural Woman” and I wouldn’t have picked that for her.  Her voice isn’t strong enough to carry a tune this big.

stephen fowler top 36 american idol 8

Stephen Fowler performed “Rock With You” and the 26-year-old  from Beachwood, OH (auditioned in New York, NY) was really off-key to me at the beginning.  It got a little better but even the backup singers seemed to be struggling.  Again, the song choice was terrible.

tatiana del toro top 36 american idol 8The very emotional Tatiana Del Toro (24 years old from San Juan, PR and auditioned in San Francisco, CA) chose to sing “Saving All My Love For You” and it was okay.  I think this was a bad song choice but she has a good voice.  Like the judges, I was weirded out by this calmer, quieter Tatiana.

danny gokey top 36 american idol 8 Danny Gokey won the hearts of the judges (and a lot of us at home) after he auditions just four weeks after his wife passed away.  The 28-year-old from Milwaukee, WI (auditioned in Kansas City, MO) chose to sing “Hero” and it was a decent song choice and I liked the performance a lot (especially the modulation towards the end).

Gokey and Fowler were the best of the night!

I realize it’s up to us whether or not a performer makes it all the way, but we are also the one’s who voted for Hicks and some of the others that won and you never hear about. Ricky Braddy was right up there with Gokey and should have been in the top 3. The competition wasn’t that tough. It was obvious who “wasn’t going to make it through.” I’m sorry to have seen him go.

I was dying last night! I tried to figure out by the way they were seated and I realized Danny was on the end of the top row so I figured he’s in because you know they’re gonna leave the 3rd pick till the last possible minute of the show. But then I saw Tatiana next to him and I had read somewhere that people were voting for her to try to mess things up for Idol. Well, I WAS ECSTATIC when I realized Danny’s in for the final 12 and better yet, Tatiana’s out! But then again, we can’t vote her out totally cause you know how the judges can be, they may bring her back as a wild card. Hey! As long as Danny made it, I’m happy!!!!!

I’ve got to hand it to Danny Goekyy. Not only he’s got a great voice and an outstanding personality, but his level of strength is amazing. I’m sure it wasn’t easy for him to get up in front of millions after just losing his wife, but he did…
    And what a performance!

Some awesome guy performances last night–ladies were disappointing overall. Danny will definitely make it thru as the “guy” pick, and Alexis will probably be the “lady” pick. My prediction is that either Anoop or Ricky will be the third one through, with maybe Michael as a wild card candidate. Of course, some voters don’t always vote on who has the best voice!!!

I am in total love with Danny also. I was really happy that he did such a good job with “Hero”. Last season, I grew to fall in love with David Cook. I wasnt crazy about his personality in the beginning, seemed cold at first, but then he totally grew on me. This season I just took to Danny immediately. He’s been thru a lot, yet he keeps a positive attitude, he seems like a genuinely nice guy plus he can sing. I’m hoping he will make it to the end.

I soooo love Danny. I hope he goes all the way to the finals :)

Danny Gokey!!!!!!! He’s my favorite and he did an amazing job last night. There’s just something about him that draws people in. He can sing and he has character.

Christine – it wasn’t your imagination. Some people got a really raw deal. Some of the backup vocals were so bad that it shocked me. The worst was during Stephen Fowler’s performance!

  12. By Jeanne

I was so sad that Michael Sarver picked that stupid song :(

  13. By CHRISTINE

Is it just me…but many of the singers got a raw deal.??.THE BAND AND BACK UP SINGERS WERE THE WORST AI HAS EVER HAD ON THE SHOW!…They shattered many of these “idol hopefuls” once in a lifetime dream…music arrangements, back up vocals, not on key w/ performer and dragging the beats…TERRIBLE Injustice to many of the singers last night…One after another, shot down…is it my imagination??? Millions in ad revenues and this is the best band for national television you can hire? Call a local middle school band, they will do better and for free!!! Also, some that got thru and others that did not…David Osmond among one…sounds like some pay-offs at FOX….

Alexis Grace is the best. That is all

Please let Tatiana get the boot so I can watch Idol again! LOL I went on votefortheworse.com and boy they are seriously pulling for Tatiana! One guy voted 661 times for the loony toon…Idol is slipping.
