American Idol’s Blake Lewis Doesn’t Want to Be a Role Model

blake lewisAmerican Idol season 6 runner-up, Blake Lewis, has made it clear that his focus is on creating music and not on being a role model for others.  I think that is a good idea because one little mistake and people are judging you in a way that is completely unfair.  I personally think that the people who make big mistakes but who turn things around and show that life can get better are the true role models – not the ones who never do anything wrong because that’s unrealistic.  Okay, I’m done with my little rant but the last few days of tabloids have just made me a little frustrated…

Blake said the following to the Associated Press:  "I definitely don’t ever want to be considered a role model. I’m just another human being who is passionate about his music and his art. If that’s a role model for something, that’s great, but I have a foul mouth, I’m tactless and have no shame.  I’m definitely not your kid’s role model. Maybe for music that’s cool, one thing, but nothing else."

I find it hard to believe that Blake has no tact considering the amount of meanness he withstood facing Simon Cowell on American Idol last season.  Blake always handled himself with tact – more tact than I could have mustered, at least :)

He may not want to be, but he should be. Blake should want to at least attempt to act decent. It seems lately he’s trying to convince people he is a bad role model especially in recent interviews.

I think there is a big difference between being a role model and knowing your audience and acting acccordingly. From what I have seen, there is a large percentage of his audience being very young.

The curse of being on idol is having very young and very old fans and trying to walk a line between the two.

    Jeanne,

    I completely hear ya!

But I still admire those entertainers, especially the young ones, who appreciate and realize that being in the public eye, many youth do look up to them and so they do strive to be good role models as best as they can.
