Now THAT’S what I’m talking about!
Dance TV fans, we have a good one here. I was eagerly awaiting the premiere of this show because I knew the dancing would be hot, and I was not disappointed. Although Mario Lopez is the host and I’m not all that fond of him, the judges were wonderful. How could anyone argue with Shane Sparks, for goodness sakes!

The show was live and they had been all over the US auditioning to find the top 12 dance crews in the country. They had several crews from each region compete, then chose one from each region to leave the competition. The dancing was fierce.
First up were the crews from the East Coast. There were three crews, but one had to be eliminated. They were:

- Status Quo from Boston: Their style was very gymnastic with lots of theatrics. This B-boy group gave us some really good moves.
- Iconic from New Jersey: They had a great look with bright blue bowler hats and sweat suits. Their hip-hop routine was full of Broadway overtones and was incredible to watch.
- The Movement from New York City: They were all strong dancers, but didn’t bring any new signature moves to the floor. With the other two teams giving it their all, they were simply out matched. They were chosen to leave the competition.
(follow the jump for the rest!)
Then came the crews from the South. There were three of them and they were:
- Live in Color from Miami: Their dance was very dynamic and energetic. And I love their moves.
- Enigma Dance Kru from Tampa: They had a great look, performed some fantastic stunts and were very innovative. They weren’t always completely in sync, but they were extremely good.
- Full Out from West Palm Beach, Florida: Their style was cool and fun, but their moves weren’t totally clean. They were chosen to leave the competition.
Next to perform were the crews from the Midwest. There were only two this time and only one was going through to the series. It was a tough choice between these two:
- Break Sk8 from Kokomo, Indiana: These guys were amazingly good!! They were on the old-school style of roller skates and performed a great break dancing routine. These guys did things on skates that most crews can’t do without skates. I loved them! In a shocking turn, the judges decided they were the ones to leave the competition. WTF??!! This time, I disagreed with the judges.
- Femme 5 from Chicago: This all girl crew was extremely good, but I didn’t think they weren’t as good as the skaters. However, the judges disagreed and sent them through to the finals.
Finally, we got to see the four crews from the West Coast perform. One of them had to be eliminated. They were:
- JabbaWockeeZ from San Diego: They wore masks because they said that it was a way to get people to focus only on the moves, not the individuals. They totally rocked it! They had some amazing popping moves and their breaking was incredible.
- Automatic Response from Phoenix, Arizona: This group of B-girls & B-boys had some really good moves, but they just weren’t quite as great as their competition. They were told they would not be moving on.
- Fysh n Chicks form Los Angeles: This was another all-girl crew and they were all dressed in baggy jeans, flannel shirts and bandanas, but this group was certainly not masculine. They were sexy women, but they were breakin’ like the dudes. They were great.
- Kaba Modern from Orange County, CA: They had some amazing popping moves and were totally in sync at all times. They had great isolations and overall, were very tight.
Then there was a surprise announcement that there would be a ninth crew to make it through to the finals. To figure out which crew it would be, there was a live freestyle battle. The judges paid attention to the live audience’s reactions to the four eliminated teams and chose to put one team through. The four competing teams were:
- The Movement
- Full Out
- Break Sk8
- Automatic Response
The audience loved Break Sk8 so the judges put them through as the ninth team in the season’s cast. Fantastic! They do deserve it!!
Now we just have to wait until February 7 to see the series begin. I’m excited and can’t wait for this season to get underway. And I’ll be covering it here all season, so be sure to check back often.
What did you think of the crews? Did the crews you liked the best make it through? Will you be watching the show this season? Leave a comment to share your thoughts!

i love ya’ll tv show and my whole family!
i love jabbawockeez i hope they win
JABBAWOCKEEZ ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
#1
JababWockeez are going to win all the way!!!!!!
omg at first i was lovin status quo but then i started liking fish n’ chick until they stopped wearing all their baggy clothes so now im stuck on JabbaWockeeZ because of the croach grab and b/c they are just so cool.
I LOVE MIKE SONG FROM KABBA MODERN. MIKE, IF YOU SEE THIS, I WANT YOU. CALL ME!
I really wish that Live in Color was not eliminated from the comp. Even though Fish n chicks did a good job and stepped their game up I feel as though the skaters should’ve been gone a long time ago.
GO JABBAWOCKESS 619 all the way!!!!!
I think the JabbaWockess are the best team in world, they are always on point and they know how to dance. 619 all the way!!
Does anyone know the name of the song Fysh n Chicks danced to during the audition episode?
JabbaWockeeZ from San Diego are the BEST reppin the 619 to the fullest
i LOVE JabbaWockeeZ. they are def the best crew there. they are always on point…and soooo cute. i love my boys!!!
i think that all groups should have their own style and their own moves thats what makes them stand out more than anything. me and my cuz watch this from the beginning and we’re planning on watching it till the end! SERIOUSLY
the group kaba modern has been dancing for 16 years now. it’s nice to see them finally being recognized in the main stream. “kaba”, stands for “kababayan” or town mate, it’s all about friendship. I love kaba and how it has diversified. this diversity gives them the hottest choreos.
FISH N’ CHICKS danced to Kat De Luna’s Whine Up featuring Elephant Man
To the JabbawockeeZ, you guys are amazing. You’ll for sure be in the finals and hopefully win. And Kaba Modern, you’ll be the other team in the finals. Good luck throughout the rest of the season to you both. And please Randy, pick another host, please! I think David Scott would be great. Even Simon would be a relief.
anyone know the song Fysh N’ Chicks danced to on the premiere show?
well im with my boys break sk8..there is more than corn in Indiana..hopefully better shyt to come..also the JabbaWockeeZ are pretty damn good!!
i agree with lim new about femme 5 and break sk8. out of those two, femme 5 definitely should go first, they’re cheesy and lame.
in my opinion, Kaba Modern kicks a$$ as do status quo. the Jabbawakees and live in color are some of the best too.
Kaba Modern originally wanted to perform to the gunshots of baby hue hef and the second to One Shot by Danity Cane. MTV created their own versions of all the songs to avoid copyright. So if you notice, the gunshots are somewhat similar, but the second song doesn’t seem to sound like Danity Cane’s at all. So stop asking and looking for the second song, you won’t find it.
BREAKSK8 didnt make it the first time around because the judges saw through the gimmick and couldnt find anything worthwhile. FEMME 5 and BREAKSK8 are just trying to get through this competition but its highly unlikely that either of them will win it.
in my opinion, i think they should just take out lil’ mama as a judge, her personal judgment on the crews isn’t professional. What’s up with their choices? enigma was one of the last 2? break sk8 is unique, but their performance was bland. iconic did deserve it, but the other 2 female crews…what were they thinking?
