This cycle of ANTM is sure angering a lot of people. From pictures on the sides of busses upsetting locals, to an entire photo theme causing controversy among feminists.
Last week’s photo shoot has ignited a series of complaints from the National Organization for Women who feel the ‘murder victim’ theme was offensive.
“Violence against women is such a reality in our society that I certainly don’t need the entertainment industry making light of it and making entertainment out of it,” Sonia Ossorio, president of the New York City chapter of the National Organization for Women, told the New York Daily News on Friday.
What do you think? Are you equally outraged or do you think being offended is a bit extreme?
Considering it was a photo shoot based on model vs. model violence I can’t say that I took offense. You have to draw the line somewhere. This is hardly the worst thing to be focusing on in the world with regards to female violence.

I say worry about real life. Do these people not go to the movies? There is violence portrayed everywhere. We would never leave our houses if we focused on all the things in the world that upset us.
Are we on the set? What is everyone getting so personal with this like you were asked to do a photo shoot of murdered victims. That’s what the industry is about. Get real, if that offend’s you all then get ready for the rest. Tyra is a excellent example of a talented women the has her own mind and takes pride in what she does. I Can’t wait to see what they have planned for cycle 11. I’ll be there with out any complaint’s. You have to express your self through your work. That’s the art of life. Go TRYA im loving what you do. God luck and God Bless Shanele Rae
I have to admit at time the shoots get a little ourageous. At times they don’t make no damn sense at all but to get offended I think that may pushing the envelope just a tad unless this triggered some heart wrenching experince you had in the past… get over it. Tyra just looking for some new crap to put these girls through to make the show interesting. yes it’s art but it also entertainment, which is all about ratings.
Latasha, this was cycle 8.
And for the rest of the people complaining, grow up! Art is subjective and if you don’t think it’s art then that’s fine but to suggest that this photoshoot is exploiting women is just plain ignorance. Violence is violence, no matter what it’s against. Why is it different if it’s violence against women? If you’re going to be against violence then be against it but that’s not going to change the fact that it happens.
What season and episode was this??
It was a stupid and uneducated shoot which completely commercializes violence against women. Sex and Violence..lovely thing to promote Tyra.

[...] Ingrid discusses the controversy on America’s Next Top Model from the "death" photoshoot [...]
I didn’t say photography isn’t art… I said this isn’t art. Huge difference.
I agree with Daniel. Let’s focus on things that actually matter instead of getting up in arms over a photoshoot. It’s really not that deep, it fits perfectly into a horror movie genre, and I agree, rather well done at that. If you’re going to be that sensitive, then boycott every horror film, book, and news program while you’re at it. To say photography is not an art form, YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED.
I say ‘get a life!’ to all the people who took offense from this amazing photoshoot. nobody was exploited from it, it was not based on real life but merely a fantasy setting. photography is an art and in this case it has expressed inself in a much more raw way.
I bet all of you who took offence all watch horror films and television programmes which portray death in one way or an other. my message to all you touchy people is that if you cant handle it – maybe you should just stick to the cartoon network.
It is indeed unfortunate that the producers of ANTM have chosen to portray their young unfortunate model-want-to-be’s in such a demeaning and essentially unattractive manner. I’d hate to think of the impressionable young women who may kill one another in an effort to emulate “Jael” or “Whitney”. This is not a game, girls. Shame.
The jaslne look good either way. She roolz.
I think it’s unreasonable for people to be so up in arms about this photoshoot. Death is a part of life. Its something people are fascinated with and something that people often romanticize. This phototshoot explored that, and at the same managed to relieve a bit of the heaviness of the subject matter by including the theme of women killing each other to win. I personally appreciated that aspect. It speaks volumes. We as a gender are brutal to one another. Sorry if that offends but it is entirely true, by including this in the photos I feel like there is actually a message about female unity. That we lack it. And to say that the photos aren’t art is ridiculous. I am sure the photographer who took the pictures would disagree. Even if the idea wasn’t there’s originally, a concept given to an artisit and the reinterpretted though there eyes… is still art. Its like saying any art based on inspiration doesn’t count as art- RIDICULOUS.
a model job consist of takin many diferent pictures and wearin many different clothin…so whats more different and unique then takin a picture dead but yet alive! Tyra you did that theme!
I think everyone is over exgerating the shoot was not a horrible idea it was a cute one to be able to potray to be dead and give life only in your eyes is a hell of a picture!..it shows the diversity in facial gestures body language and most importantly strenghth…i say strenghth becuz it takes great strenghth to be able to take a gorgeous picture wit a death theme…if people are complainin about this…why dont they complain about mitchelle and amanda portrayin to be anarexic and balimic…its really not that big of a difference!
I have to agree with the people saying this photoshoot crossed the line. I love Chindy Sherman’s photos of bodies and such, but that is art. She’s trying to say something with her photos. This, just like Marlene said, isn’t art, it’s just photos.
My sister was violently murdered. This photoshoot is awful. I am an artist, and I am clear about the need to explore in order to create, but this is just plain exploitation.
yeah, it was a tad irresponible of Top Model to do this shoot. I thought tyra was about the empowerment of women, so why does she give a stupid scenrio of them killing each other? Though they claim it was a joke they need to understand they are sending out negative images to girls how admire the show. I am not angry about it or anything, but those producers should have known better.
p.s. this is what happens when people run out of photoshoot ideas…..
