Angelina Jolie always finds time to help the UNHCR

There is a great featured slideshow over at MSNBC about Angelina Jolie. It shows a timeline (from most recent, working backwards) that really lets you see how she always finds time to do her work for the UNHCR no matter what else is going on.

If you go through the slideshow, you’ll see beautiful photos of Angelina with Brad Pitt at red carpet events, and equally wonderful photos of Angelina with her so-loved kids. In between though, there are regular photos of Angelina on UNHCR missions where she heads to war zones and refugee camps to understand exactly what is going on in the areas of the world that traditional media doesn’t always cover – all so she can make sure that the rest of the world isn’t allowed to forget about the refugees who fled their homes and have nothing.

People who dislike her say that it’s all a stunt, that she’s chasing the publicity. They’re partially right but they’ve got the biggest part wrong – yes, Angelina does this for publicity but NOT FOR HERSELF. She does it because she knows the media follows her every move and she brings that publicity to the people who so desperately need it the most. If it wasn’t for her name and celebrity power, unfortunately a large number of people wouldn’t know about the devastation going on around this planet.

So they can say what they want about her, but today on World Refugee Day, I can do nothing but offer up thanks that she is strong enough and brave enough to keep working so hard to help the refugees who need everything we can offer them, whether it’s money, physical assistance, or simply spreading awareness. I look at Angelina Jolie and I see nothing but a selfless, incredible force to be reckoned with.

(Please remember you can still peek in on life in refugee camps by viewing this UNHCR page which offers live streaming as well as archived videos.)

Thanks for the links, Gena. I can use this as ammunition against the blockheads who insist the JPs always hold press conferences about every charitable thing they do vs. other (unnamed) more modest celebs. ;-)

Not too long ago, I read Liz Taylor say that she was thankful for every single indiscretion & scandal about her – it increased the media’s interest in her which she could direct to her AIDS work.

What a great lady Angie is! She always has time for a good cause. The refugeeas are close to her heart and helping them is very important to bard too. Angie has been a goodwill ambassador the UNHCR since 2001 and she has done a marvellous job. Hopefully she and Brad will teach their children to appreciate their work and even continue the work among refugees and other charity work. Mad has already visited some camps with his mum and certainly Angie will take the other children too when they grow a little bit. Brad sure doesn´t have anything against it since he has accompanied her to some of those trips. For example to Pakistan in 2005 and earlier this year to Thailand. God bless Angie and Brad and their adorable children always!

great slideshow! love it! thanks sherry and ligaya!

I agree with you sherry, Angie is allowing herself to be photograph and using her star appeal to show awareness about the current issues facing our world. and i think that’s ok, i mean she’s just like George Clooney and the others. at least these people are helping to change our world and not like those people who just talks bad about others not even knowing if what their saying is true.

    God Bless the JP’s!

Angie is doing a lot of things for others that the media do not know about. Read a post from JJB Megasite”

There are so many wonderful things that Angie does that do not get publicized.

Liz is the 26 year old wife of David Flowers, who was wounded when he stepped on a landmine in Afghanistan on May 11. He is currently being treated at Walter Reed in DC.

Liz has a blog. She has a post that describes one of the many things that Angie did while she was in DC this week.

I slept in while Mom and Granny spent time with Dave. He had PT at 1:30 and right before he scooted off one of the nurses told him to wait that a “distinguished guest” was about to arrive. It was Angelina Jolie! She spent about 20 minutes talking with Dave and taking pictures! Then after she left the liaison came around and handed out gift bags signed by her with a gift card to Best Buy worth $1,000!

One of the posters at the new Pitt & Jolie blog said that Angie “visited a bunch of wounded soldiers while she was there. She made a bunch of new fans. Including me.”

Here is a June 7 newspaper article about David Flowers.
