Awhile back, Angelina Jolie and Clint Eastwood did an interview with Enough Rope’s Andrew Denton during their big press run. The interview aired this week and now that it’s available on YouTube, I can share a clip with you.
Unfortunately the clip is only a little more than five minutes, even though the full interview is longer than that. In this one, Clint talks about how stardom has changed in his time and how he was filming a scene outside and he couldn’t get over the amount of people lurking about with long lenses, just trying to get photos of Angelina Jolie on the set. He said he doesn’t recall anything like that in the earlier days of Hollywood.
Angelina also talks about the misguided thought that they “auctioned off their babies” when they did the exclusive first photos. Again, she re-emphasizes that they had two choices – to let the paparazzi grab the first ones and pocket the cash or to control it all so that they could take the money and put it to good use through charities.
You can also read the transcript here on the official Enough Rope website.
Thank you to all the readers who emailed me to let me know!

Thanks Sherry, it always so interesting to watch or read these interviews. I saw Changeling on Sunday and it was wonderful. I pray it will receive the awards it deserves. Also, I can’t wait to see Brad’s movie. It is getting some many rave reviews already.
Happy Holidays, to Sherry, your family and all of us here at Pittwatch. This is a wonderful community to belong too.
i can’t see the video but the transcript is funny. clint and angie has this chemistry together – they’re like comfortable with each other. thanks for the post sherry.
the audio is more nicer. you can hear angie’s infectious laughter.
Thank you Sherry for the video clip and link to the article! I don’t get tired of hearing or reading Angie’s interviews. And this one with Clint is just great. You can just see their mutual admiration and respect.
Off topic, I got one of those inspirational emails from a friend and there’s one saying that caught my eyes and thought how it applies to Angie. It says ” Should you find yourself the victim of other people’s bitterness, ignorance, smallness or insecurities; remember, things could be worse. You could be one of them.”
Thought I’d share this to all you wonderful Pittwatchers. Have a Happy Thanksgiving Holiday!
I fortunately was able to watch the whole interview twice. It just reinforced my opinion that she is one of the most genuine, intelligent and down-to-earth celebrities around.
Andrew Denton always does the best interviews because he does real research instead of using the trashloids as his source.
What a great interview! Very educational. I like Clint even more after this interview. I like the interviewer’s suggestion to Clint “May be you can adopt Angie”. I think she must be very happy to have Clint as her father as she loves and respects him so much.
Happy Thanksgiving to all of you!
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! What great inspiration, Lili May. Thanks, Sherry, for the video and link – now I have to go back to listen to the audio.
In Contention interviewed screenwriter J. Michael Straczynski: “[Clint Eastwood] did something quite unique with Miss Jolie,” he continues, “knowing that the paparazzi would hound the poor girl, he did everything humanly possible to separate the film set from that world. He shielded her, protected her and created an atmosphere where she was free to create and do the sort of work she became famous for doing before all this tabloid nonsense came about. I think she did an incredible job in the part. She reminded us of the fact she was always an actress first.”

I love how Angie straightens out the purpose of the twins photos. The tabloid writers (or insiders)really die whenever she speaks the truth on these interviews.
Thank you for the video Sherry! It was really great. I´ve always liked Clint Eastwood but after this I like him even more. It was wonderful that she straightened the twin photo thing. I would have hated the idea of the paparazzis taking the first photos of these beautiful twins. Now the proceeds of the photo shoot went to a good cause via their Jolie/Pitt foundation. BTW. Has anyone seen this weeks´ tabloid rumors in In Touch and Life & Style about Angie being pregnant again? I think it´s been a quiet week in Brangelina front and they have nothing else to write about. It was good that her rep denied the news. They want more children – that´s obvious – but not right now. The twins are still so young and they´re planning the next adoption. So the next JP child will most likely be adopted. Get a life, tabloid writes!
happy thanksgiving everyone!

Another admirer of Angelina –
This is one of those reports based on reports but maybe it’s true:
It was recently reported Penelope [Cruz] was keen to adopt a baby from India with Javier [Bardem], according to her brother Eduardo.
He said: “She admires Angelina Jolie and has always said she wants to do the same thing. She wants to adopt an Indian child when the time comes.”
Bang Media
thank you sherry, I am like everyone I love your articles and video of Angeline, even though I am older than she is, I admire her for the good that she does all over. Happy thanksgiving to eveyone on the pittwatch site.
Is it true that Angelina “denied” her pregnancy with the twins even though it was true, or did she just “refuse to confirm” it was true?
Caroline, I think Angie just never really gave an answer. I don’t think she denied. I remember reading somewhere that when she had gone to Iraq, she actually shared with an officer/general that she was having twins. I believe he was talking about his own wife who was also expecting. At that time, I wasn’t sure whether or not to believe it, but a few people were insistent that this exchange happened when she was having a meal with the troops. I do remember seeing the pictures.
Anyway, like others said, I am glad she is able to debunk a lot of false info when people actually take the time to sit and talk to her … at least, dare ask her to clarify.
It’s clear that Clint and Angie have bonded. I believe others’ views that he sees/treats her like his own daughter.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL PITTWATCHERS.
I ask because the Calgary Herald had a story that said her Rep said she isn’t pregnant, and then the article went on to say “yes, but she denied she was pregnant with the twins, too.” I am not sure that’s true.
Jesdanaz, this is the first time I’ve heard of and seen Andrew Denton and I really like him. He reminds me of U.S. journalist Bill Moyers, does his homework, respects his audience and interview subjects, and always brings something new to the table.
Caroline- No, she techincally didn’t deny her pregnancy with the twins. When she was in Iraq, a CNN Reporter tried to ask her about her still-rumored at the time pregnancy with the twins, and Angie basically dodged the question. That’s certainly not a denial!
She (or rather Brad’s rep) DID deny she was pregnant back in November, but if you step back and look at the timeline, she most likely honestly WASN’T pregnant at the time. Assuming the August 19th due date for the twins that Dustin Hoffman gave was actually true (Angie DID mention in the PEOPLE issue with the twins’ first pics that she knew they were going to be premature, so we know that the twins were definently born early), the earliest Angie could have gotten pregnant was late November.
So, when the rep denied Angie was pregnant, that was probably either right before she got pregnant, or it was so early on in the pregnancy that even Angie and Brad didn’t know about it yet!
All of that said, I don’t think Angie would deny, or have Brad’s rep deny, that she was pregnant if she really was. There were several false pregnancy rumors about Angie between the birth of Shiloh and her pregnancy with Knox and Viv, and she had no problem denying those (on one occasion, she even went as far as to say that she was on the Pill, and that she and Brad planned to adopt next-Which they did, Pax!).
Angie is known for being honest to a fault, and when there are rumors going around that are true but they aren’t ready to confirm, she and Brad (along with Brad’s rep) simply “clam up” and don’t say anything about them (other than maybe to say, as Angie did to that CNN reporter, that they won’t discuss the issue).
I think she would be taking that approach if she were pregnant again. Also (and this is addressed more to the tabloids, NOT to any of you fellow pittwatchers), the twins aren’t even five months old yet! If Angie were pregnant enough to be showing (assuming that the tabs are citing a “bump”, which is usually the case), she would have had to have gotten pregnant less than a month after giving birth to the twins!
Not only do I really not think that Angie would be careless enough to get pregnant so soon after giving birth (and after having a C-section, to boot!), but becoming fertile again that soon after birth is darn near impossible (case in point: While you sometimes see siblings only ten months apart, you never see siblings only nine months apart).
Not to mention the fact that Angie was breastfeeding at the time (I know breastfeeding is by no means birth control, but it DOES usually delay the onset of fertility). Anyway, I sincerely hope that I am correct in all of this and she isn’t pregnant. If she is, I’d be worried about her health and the health of her unborn baby.
From what I’ve read, you’re supposed to give your body about 18 months to recover after a C-section before getting pregnant again. While getting pregnant again, say, 12 months after having a C-section probably isn’t the end of the world, becoming pregnant less than one month (or even one month or a little over) after having one sounds like it would be extremely dangerous.
Add to that the fact that Angie’s had two C-sections (one of which was with twins!), and the fact that the risk of pregnancy complications increases with each subsqeunt C-section (Placenta accreta, or the placenta implanting too deeply into-or sometimes even penetrating-the uterine wall, is one of them), PLUS the fact that women who have babies extremely close together are at increased risk of complications whether or not they’ve had a C-section, this would probably be an extremly high-risk and dangerous pregnancy for Angie if she were pregnant again.
UNDER MOD- My response to Caroline and why I hope that Angie isn’t pregnant again.
Whoops! I just re-read my comment and saw that I said Brad’s rep denied that Angie was pregnant back in November. Then I realized what month it is. Naturally I was referring to last November, NOT this current month!
Neela, that’s a cute story, but I’m confused as to why Angie would have told a solider she was pregnant with twins when she clearly wasn’t ready to let the news out to the medi/public yet, and she knew that there were members of the press there (this is obvious by the photos of the event. Even if it was just UNCHR’s own cameras, that’s still press), that could have easily overheard her and leaked the news.
Anyone know why she was so comfortable announcing to a solider in front of the press that she was expecting twins (if that exchange even happened, that is)?
Oops! I think it’s actually UNHCR!
JPF, if the exchange did transpire, I think maybe she shared it with the soldier b/c it was just a casual & comfortable conversation, and they probably happened to be talking about family and having babies, as the soldier’s wife was having one, too. But yeah, I don’t know if the exchange did happen. So many things were coming out at that time, and since the story was relayed via the Internet, I was skeptical.
Did anyone from the press even made an effort to ask Angie if she was pregnant? I don’t really remember, and it didn’t seem like it. The media really just speculated as her tummy began to show. Obviously, she did share it with friends and/or colleagues, like Jack Black. So, maybe it was really no secret. I think even Angie said it was never really a secret.
A part of me thinks she and Brad didn’t make an official statement regarding the pregnancy because everyone would find out eventually and also, probably because for health reasons … seeing how far the pregnancy would be carried through w/o complications.
JPF, I just read your earlier post above, and I guess that CNN reporter did ask Angie. Well, she tried.
So, you answered my question already
Neela- Thanks for your input. That does make a lot of sense! I remember that, after Jack Black slipped about her having twins, some reporter asked her how she felt about the slip, and she said that it was never a big secret, and that if someone had asked her directly if she was having twins, she would have said yes.
I have a feeling that it was the same with the pregnancy itself. I think, if anyone had asked Angie directly if she was pregnant around the time she went to Iraq (which was, I believe, January), she would have said yes, just as she did with her pregnancy with Shiloh (in that case she WAS asked directly, by an aide worker in the Dominician Republic. I think we all remember the headlines: “Yes, I’m pregnant!”
).
True, she DID refuse to answer that CNN reporter when she asked directly, but I think that was simply because Angie felt that an interview about the situation in Iraq wasn’t the approprite time to be discussing personal issues.
As someone said (I think it was Sherry, actually. This was back when the pregnancy with Knox and Viv was still a rumor, and Sherry wanted to point out that Angie’s refusal to answer the reporter didn’t neccesarily mean she was indeed pregnant) at the time of that CNN interview, Angie usually tries to dodge personal questions in interviews about her humanatarian work.
I think she feels that those interviews aren’t the time to be discussing her personal life. Personally, I admire her for that!
UNDER MOD- Why Neela’s response to me makes a lot of sense.
Question? How long was the filming of Changeling going on after November? Reason I ask was when I saw the movie last week there was a point in the film when Angie appeared to have a baby bump.
Mary Ann- Filming on Changeling actually wrapped in November. Angie recently discussed becoming pregnant with the twins during the filming of Changeling, and confirmed that she was pregnant by the end of the shoot. The reporter conducting that particular interview asked if she was pregnant during the filming of “Changeling” (I’m guessing that question was promted by the “timeline” of the pregnancy which I discussed above).
Angie answered that she wasn’t pregnant during the first part of the shoot, but that she and Brad began trying to concieve during the shoot, and by the end of the shoot, she was pregnant. Thus, she probably got pregnant in late November, just before the shoot wrapped.
All of that said, that baby bump must have been just your imagination. There’s no way she could have been showing yet, even with twins, as she would have been just a few weeks along at most when the shoot wrapped. She was maybe a bit bloated that day, or maybe it was just her outfit (or who knows, maybe she over-indulged her pregnancy cravings that day!).
I also think they would have tried to hide her bump if she was showing, as her character obviously wasn’t supposed to be pregnant!
Anyway, like I said, most likely when Brad’s rep denied that Angie was pregnant, it was either JUST before (as in possibly just days before) she actually got pregnant, or (more likely) it was so early on in the pregnancy that even Angie and Brad didn’t know about it yet (therefore, as far as they and Brad’s rep knew, Angie WASN’T pregnant!).
I just wanted to mention another possibility of what the story may have been when the rep denied that Angie was pregnant last November. It’s possible that Angie and Brad HAD found out by then, but hadn’t told his rep yet (in fact, what the his rep actually said was something along the lines of, “She’s not pregnant, to my knowledge”, indicating that it was possible Angie was pregnant, but she-the rep, that is- hadn’t been informed of any pregnancy yet).
After all, celebs aren’t required to tell their rep the minute the pregnancy test is postive!
