Angelina Jolie in Haiti

As I wrote earlier, Angelina Jolie traveled on Monday to the Dominican Republic to visit with some of the Haitian refugees and to meet with President Leonel Fernandez. Today Angelina traveled across the border and into Port-Au-Prince where she visited one of the Doctors Without Borders hospitals.

Here’s a video clip of Angelina in the Dominica Republic with the president:

E News did a nice little piece to cover the Dominican part of Angelina’s trip, and didn’t even get snarky which is always a nice bonus!

This is a video clip of Angelina arriving in Haiti and you know, now I know why she prefers to do her UNHCR travels without cameras (other than the official UN photos/videos). Listen to the people screaming her name. I know it’s exciting to see her but this isn’t the red carpet, it’s a disaster zone and she’s there to help not to be photographed. I wish they wouldn’t do that when she’s there for humanitarian work, it’s almost disrespectful to her and more importantly to the victims.

There’s also a video over here which is much better. You can then check out some photos of Angelina in the Doctors Without Borders hospital over here.

Whew. Angelina needs to slow down just so I can keep up with her!

Yes, writing check is easy. Many celebs do so and that’s everything for some of them.
But visiting Haiti is not easy as it appears to be.
It needs ‘Courage’ and more importantly ‘Passion’.

I’m very impressed by Andersen Cooper. He was reporting from Haiti for 2 weeks just after earthquake and back to NY the other day. NY is safe and confortable place. Haiti was nightmare. His family wanted him to rest for a while. Because he was so exhausted physically and mentally. He couldn’t sleep. He couldn’t eat. But he returned to Haiti again. He ‘felt’ he needs to watch Haiti and listen to people’s agony. I think his inner voice said it was his responsibility.

Sherry, totally agree. Do people not realize that AJ and Brad spend more time with their family then the average couple. Its not like they are working 8 hours a day or have overtime. I would be very happy with just 1/2 the time they get to spend together and with their kids. On the other hand 1/2 is about all I could take because too much time with your family and you can start to lose your self. You definitely need to take time for your self, your family and for others to be a well rounded person.

    Thats right Sherry and Kim.

Its her and Brad’s life Bet, not yours. It’s for them to decide, not you.

Her adoptions have saved 3 children from poverty and danger, or possibly even death. I’m so tired of this lady being deemed a child collector. It’s very disrespectful. Would it have been better if her adopted sons and daughter were left in an orphanage to have god only knows what happen to them? No one would be knocking her if they were all biological children. It’s ridiculous and unfair to put her and Brad down all because they choose to save children that are already here instead of just having their own.

She makes a couple of films a year, and travels with the U.N. The rest of the time she’s probably at home. Compare that to mothers who have to work 5 days a week, 365 days a year. Or better yet, the one’s who are working two jobs and barely even see their children. It’s crazy to say Angelina isn’t spending enough time with hers.

You said: “Don’t let others pick you or your family apart. Stand strong! Isn’t that what you have just done? Picked her apart by judging the way she chooses to live her life? it’s not our right to judge her choices. Let the woman live her own and you live yours.

charms- I agree with you completely! Indeed her adoptions saved three children from poverty in danger. In fact, Angelina did much more than save Zahara from poverty and danger when she adopted her: She saved that sweet little girl’s life! Had Angie not adopted her, Zee almost certainly would have died.

Also, I don’t know about the rest of you guys, but what annoys me even more than people accuse Angie of being a child collector is the fact that those people act like Angie was the only one involved in the adoptions. She DID legally initally adopt both Zahara and Pax as a single parent (and Maddox too, obviously, but Brad wasn’t even in the picture at all back then), but Brad was obviously involved in those adoptions to (in fact, from his and Angie’s interviews, it’s fairly obvious that, even though Angie initally adopted Zee as a single parent, both Angie and Brad have been her parents from the very beginning!).

In the case of Pax, Brad was also obviously involved in the decision to adopt (with Zahara, as we all know, Angie had already started the adoption process by the time she and Brad became a couple. :)). I mean, I find it very hard to believe that Brad is not involved in the decisions of how and when to expand their family (in fact, in the cases of Shiloh and the twins, it would have been impossible for him NOT to be involved! Angie is an amazing woman, but even she cannot get pregnant on her own! As they say “it takes two to tango!” :))!

Also, I do not for the life of me understand why Angie is the only celeb accused of “collecting children” whenever she adopts. Plenty of other celebs have adopted, and non of them are accused of that (plenty of celebs who adopt internationally are criticized for doing that instead of adopting domestically, but most aren’t criticized any further than that.)! I mean, even Madonna, who has certainly been harshly criticized for her adoptions, has never, to my knowledge, been accused of collecting children!

In fact, I think that might make a good discussion post sometime. I know there was a “Bio vs. Adopted” one a few years back, but I still think it might be interested to do a dicussion post about why Angie is virtually the only celeb who gets heavily criticized for adopting! :)

Anyway, sorry about the long post. I just needed to vent! :)

Sherry – I totally agree with you in your response to Bet. The fact that Angie travels so much doing her goodwill ambassador work doesn´t make her a bad mother. She certainly is a very good and loving mother to her own children too. She and Brad spend a lot of time with all their children together and as a smaller groups. I really admire their way to combine the family life and their work commintments. While one of them is working the other one is at home with the kiddies. The Jolie-Pitt chidlren will one day be very proud of their parents and all the charity work they´re doing. Mad certainly already is since he´s the oldest and has visited some of the refugee camps with his mum and the MIR site in NOLA with his dad. maybe he´ll be continuing that charity work one day. God bless the JPs 4ever!

Yoco – thanks for the link to yuku jjb! That pic in which Brad and Angie are sitting and kissing is really BEAUTIFUL! It tells how much i love they actually are. That KISS is sooo REAL. They seem to be totally concentrated in each other and leaving the rest of the world outside. If that pic doesn´t shut the h8ters´ mouths then what will?! They are truly, deeply, madly in love and no one can destroy that love!

Lisa – thank you so much for posting this link to that video of Angie visiting the SOS Childrens´ Village and MSF hospital! It was really touching. She seems to be acting very naturally with those children and as a mother she sure can feel their pain. She must have been very moved while talking to those children who´ve lost everything. Her own children are so lucky to have everything they ever want. These children are so resilient and certainly in time their lives will be better but it takes time. No one or nothing can still replace lost relatives or missing limbs but thanks to organizations like UN, MSF/DWB and many others they have hope for better future. Angelina is truly an angel sent from heaven and these children will certainly never forget meeting this beautiful young lady who´s trying to make their lives worth living. God bless Angelina, Brad and their beautiful children!

    Wow, way to go Angelina!
I really admire the way she balances her time between charity work and family. It’s awesome that she has a very supportive partner who’s not jealous of the people she’s helping and inspiring.
I can’t wait for the next AJ movie. Every time I watch her movies I feel like I’m helping contribute to her cause in my teeny tiny way.

—They criticize her because she IS Angelina Jolie. They criticize her for not adopting from the U.S., they criticize her for not spending time with her kids, they criticize her for Zahara’s hair, they criticize her for allowing her kids to eat junk food, etc. It’s endless.
