Angelina Jolie Inquirer Interview

There’s a great interview with Angelina Jolie in the Philippine Daily Inquirer (not to be confused with the very trashy National Enquirer which is only good for lining bird cages) that was originally published last year but has resurfaced everywhere due to the release of the trailer for Wanted. It’s very cute.

Some excerpts:

LOS ANGELES, California—“Isn’t that always the rumor?,” quips Angelina on reports that she’s pregnant. “I am not at the moment,” the actress declared. “But, I’m beginning to find it funny how often that’s written about in the press.”

Beautiful as usual in a black blouse and gray slacks, the much-admired humanitarian added, “You should have seen me at 6 o’clock this morning, with everybody in bed and me wondering how I was going to get up to get here!”

More snippets below the cut.

Some thoughts on Beowulf:

What is involved in performance-capture technology?

You spend a few days getting mapped so the computers will know your face. You do 60 different expressions. They also map your body. Then, when you shoot, you get to be in a jumpsuit. There are balls on your head. You look goofy and so does everybody so, it makes us feel very close. It’s not sexy at all (laughter)!
It was a lot of fun! I haven’t seen the full film, but when I saw my scenes, I was very surprised. I called home to say that I wasn’t sure my 6-year-old can see the movie, because it was more than I expected!

It was quite realistic. I thought it might be fun for the eldest of my sons to see—but it’s not! It’s too mature—it’s for older audiences because it’s more violent and sexual.

“Beowulf” was written centuries ago. Yet, it’s still valuable today. What do you make of the story?

The poem has a lot of layers. I always saw it as a tale about people who would sacrifice or sell their souls to the devil to get fame or power—and what a horrible trap that is!

I was raised to believe in hard work. At the end of the day, you sleep well because of what you’ve accomplished. So, the idea of getting something for nothing has never appealed to me.

On her roles in life:

In what order of importance do you rank your roles as mom, humanitarian and actress?

I’m a mom first. I don’t know if I’m as much an ambassador as I’m a citizen of the world. I just want to learn about the world and its cultures. Lastly, I’m an actress.

On the dangers of her humanitarian work:

You’re also a brave woman who goes to some dangerous places. Have you had close calls?

Yes, I’ve had close calls. I’ve been in countries where people tried to take my passport—where I’ve had to hide in a room, because there were people outside who were dangerous.

On how Wanted helped with the grieving process:

“Wanted” is a fun, action movie. When my mom passed away, I wanted to do something physical to get me out of my head. I wanted to do that because I was in a place where I wasn’t capable of getting up in the morning. So I needed something that would force me to be active!

On Brad Pitt:

In Toronto, Brad told us that you are his love, his partner and the mother of his children. How would you describe him?

Can I steal his (laughing)? I’d say he’s my love, my dearest friend and—the father of my children.

On dealing with paparazzi and the kids:

Have you adjusted to the constant presence of the paparazzi in your life?

Certainly, with the children, it’s a difficult thing. It limits what we can do. We try to make their lives full whenever possible. We look for places with freedom.

When it comes to the cameras, we make sure the children aren’t scared of them, so we say, “They’re just silly people who take pictures—aren’t they crazy?” How could you possibly explain something that there’s no good explanation for?

One last comment:

If you were reborn, would you like to be Angelina Jolie with Brad Pitt again, or a powerful, sexy woman?

Can’t I be both (laughing)? Honestly, I’d like to be a pilot and a painter.

While I enjoyed the interview, honestly I thought that last question was both stupid and offensive. Can’t she be Angelina with Brad AND a powerful, sexy woman? Because she is Angelina, she is with Brad, and as far as I can see she’s certainly a powerful woman, and she’s most definitely one sexy woman too. It’s like they’re implying that you can only be powerful and sexy if you aren’t also in a relationship. I don’t know, maybe they meant it in a totally different way, but it just sounds strange to me.

I apologize to all the Brad Pitt fans who prefer to read news and see pictures about him, but thus far, Angelina is the one in the forefront of the media due to her movie release, her new movie trailer, and her current filming. Soon it will taper off and we’ll be back to Brad; I promise to update immediately when it does!

The last question was probably lost in translation.

And yes, please bring on more Brad! I’m not an Angie fan but I think Brad is worth returning for.

I know the answer to Mary Ann’s question. When I first discovered Pittwatch. com, it was under Christina Jones, then it went to Robyn P. then Sherry. I think they are just too busy with family just like some of us. Anyway, I appreciate your updates Sherry. I like Brad and Angie as a couple too, not only Brad. Angie is very smart and always gives great interviews.

I agree with Passerby Ligaya…those two tidbits about Brad were very interesting, but I think the one about Rhianna is even more interesting because she has a song called “UMBRELLA” which was featured in a video on YOUTUBE called “Brad and Angelina UMBRELLA”…and it is HOTTT. I watch it every time I need a pick me up!…and umbrella signifies a woman who will be there to protect her man during the bad times…like when it’s raining HATERS/PAPS/bitter JAFans…etc. Check it out.

i think the last question was meant to say…

if you were reborn would you choose to live the life youre living again? (like would she choose to be Angelina Jolie in her next life or something else)

or at least thats how i saw it… that way its not so offensive or in bad tast. Just lost in translation

Thank You sherry for the update.

    @Ligaya
Those too facts are really interesting especially the tennis one.

Thanks for setting up this thread. The interview deserved it.

2 Brad bits: Today I read Rihanna crushes on him, and Federer (the world’s top tennis player?) wants Brad to play him in a movie.

I like Angelina’s response “Can’t I be both”. I am willing to bet when she said that the reporter got embarrassed by asking a question that was not fully thought out.

RE no news about Brad. I think in the new year we will see less of both Brad and Angelina so it good for all of us to get use to it.

Thanks for all your work Sherry.

let me rewrite my part of my last paragraph…that should be …I think most of us that come to this site…”

I think I agree with AF, it was just a mis-phrased question. To be honest, I’m really a Brad Pitt fan and while I also admire Angelina, I really didn’t pay much attention to her prior to her being with Brad. But Sherry, I don’t mind that there’s not much news on Brad at the moment. It’s a good thing actually, at least he’s getting some time off. Some people insist that they publicize themselves all the time, but I guess this lack of news and photos on Brad (and the kids) just goes to say that they don’t. Anyway, I don’t mind reading about Angie and seeing her pictures. She’s so gorgeous anyway.
So, Sherry, many many thanks for all your effort. I think most of us how come to this site truly appreciate what you’re doing, even if we don’t say it often.

that last question was obviously a joke.
its like saying, “so angelina, whats it like to be ugly?” knowing full well that she is beautiful.
i read it as a joke.

  15. By AF

It’s probably a question that was meant to be amusing- probably phrased incorrectly. I don’t think they meant to imply that her life w/ Brad made her any less of a woman. All the other interviewer questions were ok… And I don’t mind seeing news on Angie- I’m probably more of a fan of Brad and Angie as a couple!

Mary Ann – The site already exsited for awhile. It used to be maintained by someone else who gave it up because of time constraints. I came in after that. I always thought Brad Pitt was a wonderful actor, and Angelina Jolie was my favorite celebrity for a lot of reasons, including being my favorite actress and being a humanitarian. Once they got together, I was very interested in them as a couple.

Basically, when the site was open to have a new blogger take over I just REALLY lucked out by being in the right place at the right time and they thought I was a good fit based on what I said about Brad and Angelina in my application and also based on the writing on my own personal blog. I’ve been writing here since March and I still love it. :)

Sherry, I completely agree with you, it was in poor taste. She is all of those and then some. In fact being with Brad I believe has changed her and given her the chance to give more of herself to the world.
Sherry, question to you: Why did you chose Brad Pitt to have your website on and when did you start this website?
