With her family growing larger and no plans to stop acting or working with the UNHCR, Angelina Jolie will get to lighten her load by ending her work with St. John. She has been working with them for three years but they have chosen to end the contract with her. Angelina will be replaced by four new fashion models in color ads. Angelina‘s ads were all in striking black and white, shot by one of my favorite photographers, Mario Testino. St. John’s CEO stated:
“Three years is a long time to maintain any campaign, and we felt it was time to do something new and different.”
I understand their position completely because you always need to change things up to hold interest but it’s a shame too because she always looked so sultry and glamorous in the ads.

Clint Eastwood pic will open Oct. 24
“Changeling,” a Universal/Imagine production that Eastwood directed from a script by J. Michael Straczynski, also bowed to positive notices at Cannes. It stars Angelina Jolie in the true story of a single mom in 1920s Los Angeles whose son goes missing; when the police return her son to her, she insists they’ve found the wrong boy, and her case becomes a cause celebre.
Borrowing a page from the successful 2003 release of “Mystic River,” Universal will debut Clint Eastwood’s latest movie, “Changeling,” in limited release Oct. 24, followed by a wide expansion a week later on Oct. 31.
A similar fall release pattern — allowing for reviews and word-of-mouth to pave the way for a broader rollout — was utilized by Warners for “Mystic,” which, like “Changeling,” premiered at the Festival de Cannes.
“Mystic” opened Oct. 8, 2003, and played just 13 theaters its first weekend before expanding to 1,467 during its second weekend. Buoyed by six Oscar noms and two wins, it went on to gross $90.1 million domestically.
Roger Ebert couldn’t go to Cannes because of a broken hip, but he convinced his wife Chaz to go & send him emails “To Roger from Cannes”:

Excerpt from “My Dinner with Clint”: When I took my seat at “L”Echange” I learned that my other tablemates were Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. You will be happy to know that I wasn’t starstruck. I discussed architecture with Brad and the movie with Angelina. When Brad learned I was writing a few articles for you while you were away with a fractured hip, he told a lovely story. It was about the engineer who fell ill while finishing the Brooklyn Bridge. His wife took over and ran the operation. The man could look out his apartment window and see what was going on. It was kind of him to tell me that story. Looking at the two of them up close and personal, I have to report that they are officially the best-looking couple on the planet. I feel sorry that they are so hunted and photographed.
http://blogs.suntimes.com/cannes/2008/05/postcards_from_cannes.html#more: Postcard #1 has more on Angie, Brad, Clint & the Changeling.
Angelina was snubbed last year for A Mighty Heart and Brad for Jesse James (and for Babel before that). Wouldn’t it be great if they both won Oscars for Changeling & Benjamin Button? They should get nominations, at least. (I know I’ve only seen clips. ;-) )
6/27 – Wanted
9/12 – Burn After Reading
10/24 – Changeling
12/19 – CCBB
EW’s KFP weekend prediction:
http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20206461,00.html
Kung Fu Panda
4,136 theaters · 2nd weekend
It’s not just for kids. That’s the lesson to take away from the impressive bow last weekend of Jack Black’s animated movie, which drew an audience that was about 50 percent adults.
That it has been banking big bucks (some $6 mil per day) during the week, when kids are in school, proves the point even further.
Thus, Kung Fu Panda is destined to pass the $100 mil mark this weekend and, heck, it could repeat as champ if both The Incredible Hulk and The Happening falter.
Weekend prediction: $35 million
“She (AJ) still does nonsense with a straight face; she still does straightness with a nonsensical smile.”
OK, he didn’t make clear to me that Angie was doing this deliberately/consciously – which would be one thing. I took it to mean Thomson thinks Angelina is an acting dunce who has no sense and does the opposite of what her character is supposed to do. And somehow I can’t see Angelina drifting through Changeling “with a nonsensical smile.” :-)
Rita, I did write “Thomson” not Thompson (6/13/08, 11:40) ;-) I did a typo on his first name, though.
I like Salon in general but haven’t agreed with everything they post.
OK. I’ll re-read his piece, but I’m not convinced. And if Thomson is writing a positive piece about Angie, it’s awfully easy to mis-read. I’m not considered slow on the uptake so if I can misread it, will at least half the readers make the same mistake?
Do you think he’s writing in the manner of Jonathan Swift’s A Modest Proposal? Does he always write in this style?
I think there was a character in Ayn Rand’s The Fountainhead that sort of matches Mr Thomson. I forget his name, but the think he wanted to control mankind.

Hey Sherry – did you see that Brad was named #1 Father by AOL? How sweet is that?!
http://www.bradpittwatch.com/brad-named-1-celebrity-dad/
this was under modertion, so:
ligaya, I think you totally misunderstood David Thomson, noted film critic (not to be confused with David ThomPson). I think he actually admires AJ. He writes: “For the moment, Angelina Jolie is just having fun in a society that she has every reason to regard as stupid and fit to be destroyed”.
He perhaps writes in a way that is confusing (see Mary Ann’s comment), but he does write for Salon, which is a progressive online magazine and other progressive and liberal supporting magazines. if anything, I think he was poking fun at today’s society.
another quote of David Thomson that to me shows admiration, NOT disgust:
“She (AJ) still does nonsense with a straight face; she still does straightness with a nonsensical smile.”

OTOH, we know how inspirational Angie is. Alicia Keys, Gemma Atkinson & Jessica Simpson are just a few who’re thinking of adoption.
http://www.showbizspy.com/news/06132008/keys-i-want-to-adopt-like-angelina-jolie
Speaking to WENN at a special screening of the movie in New York City on Thursday (12Jun08) night, Keys said, “I’ve always loved kids. Kids are so important. It’s important to nurture and spend time with them and listen to them. I’m not ready to be a mom. But (adoption) is something that is important to consider. That’s what I really admire about Angelina. I think it’s beautiful the way she embraces children of the world.” And she insists she would like to create a family of different cultures, like Jolie: “We are all one. We’re not as separate as we oftentimes think. So I possibly would (adopt), when I’m more in the motherhood stage of my life.”
http://www.showbizspy.com/2007/11/14/gemma-atkinson-is-the-next-angelina-jolie-according-to-her-mum
‘I’m a Celebrity’ star Gemma Atkinson is going to be the next Angelina Jolie, according to her mum Lynne. Gemma wants to follow in the footsteps of Jolie and adopt children. Gemma said: “I want to adopt a child from an under-privileged place. I want to go somewhere where there is a lot of poverty, where there is a lot of manual labour work.”
http://www.showbizspy.com/2007/08/13/jessica-simpson-says-she-wants-to-be-like-angelina-jolie-adopt
Jessica Simpson has said that she wants to adopt children from all over the world, just like Angelina Jolie has. “I think Angelina Jolie has done amazing things. The international adoption rate has skyrocketed, Simpson says. I want to adopt before I actually have my own kids.” 26-year-old Simpson revealed she wanted to adopt a baby for her birthday when she was 16. She visited the Casa Hogar Elim orphanage in Mexico for the first time when she was a teenager.
Daved Thomson is very famous in movie & movie critic circles. His book is considered the bible on the movie business. He hates Star Wars & George Lucas too – another reason to dislike him. I don’t know if he’s vitriolic like this to everybody or just a few people like the JPs.
Don’t worry about it – it’s just another example of anti-JP hatred. Like Angie says, you make decisions & take a stand – and there’ll be people who don’t like you.
Ligaya, what the heck is that guy saying? I know I am getting senile and slowing down, but I read that mess twice and didn’t understand anything. My goodness he is filled with such hatred towards the Jolie-Pitts. Who is this guy is he famous????
This an example of the BS thrown at Angelina. This is by a ‘well-respected’ critic/author. My answer is below. I like to know what Angelina is faced with so I can be prepared to counter it.

“Amusing – if snarkily wrong and way off-base. Granted, you have a way with words with your poison pen knife. You’re self-servingly selective – Ms. Jolie was awarded 1 Oscar, 2 SAG awards, and 3 Golden Globes, including a sweep of all 3 awards in one year for Girl, Interrupted. They can’t all have been wrong. I don’t know if it’s just Ms. Jolie (maybe she unknowingly snubbed you at one time?), or you are generally a misogynist as shown in your contempt for her childcare plans & implying that Mr. Pitt is a p***y because he’s not dragging her around by her hair.
“Whatever, your book was on my must read list. I won’t bother now that I’ve seen an example of your writing aka hit piece. It would be a waste of my time and money. And I’ll be sure to spread the bad word of mouth.”
Hey Sherry! I think we should meet and watch Wanted together, how about you?! LOL – that would be something, though, wouldn’t it?!

I’ve used Shiseido on & off since the 1990s – I like their skincare, sun protection, perfume & makeup. They’re quality stuff and last a long time. And of course their association with Angie is an extra plus.
I like Shiseido make up too & like it more because it represent Angie. God bless.
