Angelina Jolie talks with Ann Curry

Angelina Jolie has been very busy making the world aware of World Refugee Day (which is tomorrow, June 20th). This morning the Today show aired an interview that Ann Curry did with Angelina Jolie yesterday.

It was yet another wonderful interview bringing important facts about refugee to light. They even spoke of one of Angelina’s first UNHCR missions to Pakistan in 2001. She talked about how, as a mother, she wants to make sure she has enough snacks for her kids on long drives so that they won’t be hungry and yet she had met with mothers who sometimes have absolutely no food at all to offer to their children for days at a time and how that must be one of the most difficult things in the world for a parent to go through.

I also liked Angelina’s response when Ann said that sometimes Americans don’t feel like they care about refugees because American lives are being lost in those same areas in wars, so what makes Angie care so much. Her reply was that she cares and others should too because those refugees are fighting (or fleeing) the same extremists that the U.S. is fighting – in other words the troops and the refugees are allies (and I’d like to add with the main difference being that the refugees aren’t able to defend themselves as much).

Angelina added that the point is not to simply feel pity for refugees but to help them to get to a point where they can rely on themselves because they are such strong, smart people. They are the future there.

Much like in the Anderson Cooper interview last night, Angelina said that it is her intention to take her children to these camps to help them to understand how fortunate they are and how important compassion and aid is. Ann brought up the fact that Angelina has already taken Maddox to some of the camps – what an experience. Angie said that she wants her kids to be raised with a more accurate view of the world than she was – and indeed, most of us were – so that they can grow up to be better people than they would be if they were sheltered. She even said if she had understood the problems of the world better at a younger age, she probably would have gotten through her own youth better and would have been less self-destructive.

Every time I hear Angelina Jolie speak about refugees I feel so inspired. Don’t you?

In related news, I left this link in the post about Anderson Cooper but I want to bring it here too. If you’re interested in learning more, the UNHCR is running live streaming today and tomorrow from various refugee camps. she inspires alot of people – but i disagree we CAN do something about it oursleves. maybe we can´t help with alot of money, but we can start by beeing aware of the political problems of our planet in the first place, we can start with beeing more tolerant in every aspect of our life, we can start with changing our own lives to the better. the refugee-situation is a result of war, war is a result of mostly intolerance and disrespect……Angie is a good example to all of us. we should listen more carefully to what she says….

I read that Angie visited a rehabilitation center for wounded soldiers on Friday. She was there for soldiers who got damage from Iraq or Afganistan war.

This news is under rader and no media will report this.
I thought she would spend Friday with people from UNHCR or some charity organizers but she didn’t forget those US soldiers.
And I remember last year she and Brad gave $1 million to Iraqi and US children whose parents were killed by Iraq War. We shouldn’t forget that war causes tragedy in both sides.

first of all, Happy World Refugee Day to all of you from here in the Philippines! :)

i always felt like crying whenever i heard stories like this, especially when Angie is the one telling us about refugees.. it always makes me feel how lucky i am to be here, just sitting here typing my comment in my own computer and knowing that there’s plenty of food in our ref and i have a place to sleep and a wonderful family.. but refugees don’t have this all.. i am so proud of Angie that she has done so much about this people.. by the way she talks and how her eyes shifts from one emotion to the other made me feel so warm inside and know that she really cares.. someday i do want to go to different places and be with these people, help them and change their situation little by little..

i love Angie more! and i know someday, her kids will be a better citizen because they are starting to know about our world in a different way.. the Jolie-Pitt’s are such an amazing family! God Bless them more! they are such an INSPIRATION! :)

She is most beautiful with the very minimal make-up. I am overwhelmed by her sincerity in helping these displaced children of refugees. I hope and pray that God will bless her, Brad and her children. They really do their best of their share to make a difference in this world. I really do admire them.

Thanks Sherry for the vid. I watched all the related videos over and over again (crazy of me). As a couple Brad & Angie have combined their “superpower” & make everybody more aware of what is going on around the world. You want to emulate people that you admire & want to do something as well. It may not be on a grand scale but it all depends on your best capability. I really admire both of them so much.

What a great mom! Her kids are so fortunate. They will have a rich and rewarding life. Just think of all of the experiences they will have. They will be well rounded and intelligent. I can just see what a mom she is and will stimulate her kids interests, make them thinkers, doers and givers.

I could feel the pain, the heartache while Angie was talking about the refugees, she witnessed most of the sufferings & it hurts her, I wish I can do more by not just donating money to her charity but maybe someday to volunteer.Angie is an inspiration to all of us, she makes a difference, glad I am a fan of her. God bless Angelina Jolie & family.

Last night during the Anderson Cooper interview and again this morning while waching Ann Curay I was struck by how peaceful, serene and content Angie seems. There was such a grace about her . She and Brad were truly meant to be together. They complete each other. I am proud to be her fan and feel almost a motherly pride at how amazing and what a great mom she has become. Sounds silly I know

I stayed up last night to watch Angie on Anderson Cooper. She is such a good woman who truly cares these causes. I also feel very proud to be her fan. I know I will not be around to see it but some day we will see all of their children working to help the poor and needy. They will also go to war zones to see what they can do to help. Brad and Angie are teaching their children to be good human beings.

Does anyone know if Angie has any other scheduled appearances in DC this weekend

there’s some really nice comments here. I so agree, Angie is so inspirational. It’s great that people like Ann Curry & Anderson Cooper help to promote the causes she supports. I do think that even young children understand something of the enormity of trying to do-good in this ‘field’; Angie’s children are probably becoming more understanding of the reason why their mum is usually so busy. I imagine she is frequently speaking about the refugee situation to them. And the message is so gripping- and so compelling, and so true: of course the sons of refugees might grow-up to become terrorists themselves; what else might they do? Three cheers to Angelina Jolie and bestest wishes to her plight.
