Angelina Jolie tears up comparing her mother to her character

While giving a Changeling press conference for the British press, Angelina Jolie teared up while comparing her mother, Marcheline, to her character of Christine Collins.

She said that she was able to relate to her character because of some similarities between Christine and her mother as far as temperament is concerned. I liked how she shared a little personal bit of her mother with us by saying that although her name was Marcheline, everyone called her marshmallow because she was such a softie. She said she never really got angry “couldn’t swear to save her life” and that despite that she could still be strong and fierce to protect her kids.

Since Christine lived in an era where women were decorative and meant to do little more than care for their family and home, and were certainly never meant to speak up, Angelina was able to use her mom’s characteristics to portray a quiet woman in 1928 who had to stand up to an entire corrupt police system.

The video clip made me tear up. It’s very clear that Angelina misses her mother very much, and I can’t imagine that kind of loss, especially when Marcheline wasn’t very old.

If you read the accompanying article, at the end it says that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are planning a big family Christmas, though she didn’t mention where. I’m going to guess either New Orleans, since it’s their official home base, or in Missouri with Brad’s parents, unless obligations have them elsewhere. Their Chateau in France would probably be pretty spectacular for Christmas too – where do you think they’ll be?

I felt so bad for Angie when I heard that her mom had died. I felt even worse when, by that Fall, everyone was complaining about her being to skinny. I wanted to say to those people, “The poor woman just lost her mother, for crying out loud!” What with the adoption of Pax and chasing around after 4 kids on top of that, no wonder she lost weight last year!

I even think that Angie may have gone through a period of depression after her mother’s death. Anyway, I wonder if Angie thinks of her mother when she looks at Vivienne, since Viv’s middle name is Marcheline?

Melodie- I think Angie and Brad will adopt their next kid from Africa, but NOT neccesarily Ethiopia. As for why, I think because Angie has talked about wanting to “balance the races” in the house, and Maddox has Pax. As for possibe countries, Darfur is a possibility, although I have a feeling that adopting from there might not be very easy at this point.

I think it’s more likely that, if they want to adopt a child affected by the ongoing Darfur tragedy, they will adopt from Chad, which is right next to Darfur.

Another possibility is Namibia. Namibia is a very special place for the J-Ps, for at least three reasons:

    1. Shi was born there.

    2. It’s in Africa, which is Z’s home continent.

    and

    3. It was in Namibia that Angie first took custody of Maddox (I’m not sure, but I think she was either filming a movie there or doing humanitarian work there).

As for what gender and age of child they’ll adopt, I’m prediciting an older girl, since they choose to adopt an older same gender sibling for Maddox (Pax, obviously). Two other reasons I don’t think they’ll go for a baby? Knox and Viv! I doubt they’d want three babies or toddlers, or two toddlers and one baby!

Given the age range Angie asked for when she applied to adopt Pax (this was obviously before she knew of Pax specifically), I’m guessing the next child they adopt will be between the ages of 2 and 4 (Angie apparently requested a boy between the ages of 3 and 5 when she adopted Maddox, and Mad was nearly six at the time. Likewise, Z will more than likely be 4 by the time Angie begins the adoption process).

I also think Angie and Brad may adopt together this time, as I believe it’s relatively easy for unmarried couples to adopt in most African countries.

I’m even going to predicated an EDA (Estimated Date of Arrival) for Jolie-Pitt kid number 7: November 2009 (that’s assuming they begin the adoption process in January when the twins turn six months old and it takes a little less than a year to go through)!

Oh, and getting back on topic…I don’t know if any of you fellow pittwatchers realize this, but the name Vivienne literally means “live” or “alive”. Because Marcheline has no specific meaning (Angie’s mother created the name by combinding her given first and middle names: Marcia and Lynne), Vivienne’s full name literally means “Live Marcheline”.

I think they will spend Christmas and New Years in Missouri and NOLA. They seem to have peace in those places, people aren’t falling all over them. I think it would be pretty terrific if they are in NOLA when Ligaya is there.

I forgot to mention in my previous comments that I remember Angie saying in an interview shortly after Pax’s adoption that it was her mother who chose Pax’s name. She then went on to say something along the lines of “I adopted Pax, and I couldn’t even call my mom up to tell her.” My heart ached for Angie then. She obviously wanted nothing more than to be able to share the joy of adopting Pax with her mother.

I hope she was at least comforted somewhat knowing that Pax’s grandma was likely watching over him during the adoption process, and making sure he got to his new family safely! :)

That’s so heartbreaking, JoliePittFan. Every time she looks at Pax or calls his name, Angie must think of Marcheline.

Mary Ann and Melodie, lol. Well, we know they won’t be in NOLA this holiday. So it’ll have to be either 2009 or 2011. I’m determined to have Reveillon Dinner in the French Creole tradition (see menu below) so hubby and I’ll be there one xmas.

    Brennan’s 2008 Reveillon Menu

Choice of: New Orleans Turtle Soup
    Mande’s Seafood and Okra Gumbo
    Oyster Soup Brennan

Choice of: Egg Hussarde – Poached Egg atop a Holland Rusk, Canadian Bacon, Marchand de Vin Sauce, Topped with Hollandaise Sauce
Egg Sardou – Poached Egg on an Artichoke Bottom in a Bed of Creamed Spinach and Covered with Hollandaise Sauce

Brennan Salad – Romaine Lettuce with Tangy Creole Dressing, Grated Parmesan Cheese and Croutons

Choice of: Baby Rack of Lamb Roussel – Grilled Whole and Sliced into Mini-Chops. Served with Bearnaise and Choron Sauce and a Bouquetierre of Fresh Vegetables
Trout Amandine – Filet Trout Sauteed and Topped with Lemon Butter Sauce and Slivered Almonds, Accompanied by Fresh Potatoes
Pepper Tournedos – Finely Ground Peppercorns are Pressed into Two Prime Tournedos. Served in a Sauce of Natural Juices, Brandy and Cream.

Bananas Foster – Bananas Sauteed in Butter, Brown Sugar, Cinnamon, and Banana Liqueur, then flambeed in Rum. Served over Vanilla Ice Cream.

    $85

(in San Francisco, this would easily run at least $200, and the hotels cost twice as much too)

Ligaya I get Cooking Light each month and when yesterdays copy arrived I thought of you right away. There is a whole section about a family in NOLA and their Reveillon Menu and recipes. Maybe there would be something on the website.
Gee I was getting excited for you and hubby thinking that maybe Brad, Angie and kids would be in NOLA and you might see them from a distance. Oh well, now I think they are going to Africa where two of their daughters were born. Maybe they will make arrangements to start up two more foundations in Zee and Shi’s names.

The dignity with which Angelina shows herself so vulnerable is just amazing. She is so gorgeous, it is simply incredible how beautiful she is, as a human being.
