Angelina Jolie thinks her looks are getting better with age

The Mail Online (in the UK) has a great article up about Angelina Jolie up, which I think is a must-read for any fan after last week’s snarky New York Times article.

Angelina Jolie Daily Mail article

I do have one minor issue with the article – I have a pet peeve when anyone refers to a father as “baby-sitting” his children, but aside from that minor annoyance in the first paragraph, it’s great and gives us a nice insight into Angelina Jolie without getting sarcastic.

Another one of the interviews she gave during her press run for Changeling in New York, they mention that Angelina looks completely pulled together despite her self-mockery over her attempt to get breakfast underway just hours before the interview began.

Considering the times I’ve heard negative comments about how much money was spent for People to get the rights to the first twins’ photos, I was glad to read that Angelina acknowledged it, that it doesn’t seem as though it was a small sum to her:

‘It was a crazy amount of money,’ she agrees, referring to the baby pictures deal. ‘But look, we’re using the money for our charitable foundation and in that way it does some good.’

Immediately after that, the article talks about just a small amount of the goodwill work Angie does for refugee children around the world, and it manages to do so without getting snotty, which would have helped the NYT article a great deal.

More below the cut!

She talks about her new perception of beauty too:

‘You know what is beautiful? My mom. [Her mother was the French actress Marcheline Bertrand, who died aged 56 last January from ovarian cancer.] She was beautiful to me, and I look more like my mom as I get older. Something else comes out of you when you become a parent and, as you get older, you start to see more character in your face.

‘Now, when I look at myself, I just see somebody at peace, and I see a mom, and I see my own relatives in my face – and that’s a kind of beauty that exists for everybody and doesn’t disappear.’

Considering the striking resemblance between Angelina and Marcheline, I can’t disagree with that!

She expanded on what it was like to shoot a movie with a disturbing topic like Changeling. Angelina has often mentioned how difficult it is, as a mother, to go into that dark place of having a missing child, but in this interview she also added that she was constantly paranoid about her own children, about where they were and what they were doing at all times. I can’t blame her, because when you have to be in that frame of mind all day on set, how could you not let it leak into your real life?

‘I remember one weekend I’d taken a nap and Shiloh was asleep in her cradle, and when I woke up she was gone. I was freaking out. And nothing had happened – Brad had taken her and the rest of the kids to the park.

‘But Walter’s story haunted me. Throughout filming I was hugging the kids and keeping them close to me.’

I think one of my favorite parts of the article is when the author says that although the tabloids run rampant about Angelina’s so-called post-partum depression and tell tales of alleged trouble in the Angelina and Brad relationship, she certainly seems to be a woman who is very happy with everything in her life right now. They also re-iterate the fact that Angelina doesn’t read the tabloids, that they’re silly.

Angelina admits she isn’t perfect, something people should be aware of, says she’s made mistakes and learned from them, and says, ‘I’d love to talk to other mothers about things I don’t know how to do.’ One of her less-than-perfect sides is that she isn’t as green as she’d like to be, but that Brad has taught her a lot about how to be better.

I was especially happy to hear her address the flights, since many people like to snark on the fact that they’re supposed to be an environmentally aware family and yet the Jolie-Pitt family flies privately so frequently (as though they could all sit in coach, SURE). She said, ‘And if we fly private, we buy carbon credits wherever we go.’

It was just so refreshing to read this after the two-faced article of last week. Please check out the full interview over here.

tina and joliepittfanatic: not only was Angie´s mother not French, Marcheline was also not her original name. She was born Marcia Lynne. She changed her name to the similarly sounding Marcheline (which in itself sounds similar to the French name Marcelline). Also, she was not part native American – that´s according to Jon Voight (see his Wikipedia entry). He said that they made that one up to make her come across as more exotic. If it´s true or not, I don´t know, but it´s interesting to see how long rumours last once they get started…..

Whoops! When I mentioned in my previous post that “I think she (Marcheline) was actually born in LA,”, I had her confused with Angie. Angie’s the one who was born in LA, NOT Marcheline (which makes sense, since Marcheline’s parents weren’t actors. Not that everyone who lives in LA is involved in the entertainment industry, but you know what I mean!). Anyway, sorry for accidentally spreading false information!

with all the plastic surgery she’s had, let’s hope she’s happy with it. Although, she looks well over 40, she paid big bucks for her nose job, chin job, cheek implants, breast implants, etc. Too bad she didn’t get rid of all the wrinkles too

mindy, I take it you don’t like Angelina very much. That’s fine, but if you want to bash her and/or spread false information, please go elsewhere. Trust me, there are plenty of other sites out there that welcome Angie bashing/false information spreading. This site is definently NOT one of them.

Anyway, Angie has had little to NO plastic surgery done. All you have to do to get confirmation of this is look at pictures of her mother, Marcheline. Angie looks so much like her mother now that it’s almost scary! Unless Marcheline and Angie had the EXACT same procedures done (and even if they had, the results wouldn’t have looked the same, as how plastic surgery turns out varies from person to person), it’s obvious her looks are just genetic!

And breast implants? Come on! Ordnarily she actually doesn’t have that huge of a chest. It’s just been much more, um, endowed (is that the right word), because, up until last month, she was nursing twins.

Even if she DID normally have a huge chest, that doesn’t mean anything! Trust me on this one, women can have huge chests without having plastic surgery (in fact, one of my family members actually had to have breast REDUCTION surgery because her “girls” were so huge they were causing unneccesary strain on her back, not to mention the other incoviences that can come from having a chest that big!)!

Anyway, I apologize if I sounded snappy. I just want to make it clear to you that we don’t put up with bashing, false information spreading (unless it’s truly an accident, such as someone mistakenly saying that Angie’s mother was French), h8ting comments about our favorite family here!

joliepittfanatic, just ignore mindy. she’s strayed here before. she’s just doing what usual trolls do—attract attention to their negativity. usually, i would have retorted something back, too but then, judging by her statement, it’s clear that’s one “different” opinion not even worth responding to.

isn’t it interesting though that one woman can attract so much attention? it’s pretty awesome that people who dislike Angie with a passion go out of their way to visit her fan sites and forums. ;)

What a cool interview! Thanks for sharing Sherry! Again, she mentions the “falling in love” and like I said before meaning their characters actually fall in love and fight, and not in real life. It was great to be reiterated in a way, just to prove that things get taken out of context. Have a great day everyone!

    Joliepittfanatic and Neela:

When I read Mindy’s comment, I wondered – who is she talking about? To me, it’s obviously not Angie. I think Angie’s beauty is natural. And, Mindy didn’t name Angie.

So, I wonder – why do you both feel the need to lash out at other posters? Being rude and uncivil puts you at the same level as Mindy, if in fact she was slamming Angie.

If there are rules about this site, i.e. you can only post if you say X,Y,Z – only Sherry has that authority, in my opinion.

Sherry, would you please comment here? Both about 1) are there rules around posting, 2) community behavior towards other posters.

I’ve always loved pittwatch, but lately I’m finding this lashing out and bullying really detracts from the integrity of the site.

    thanks,
    Sarah

While I do think Mindy was intentionally slagging off on Angelina due to the fact that she said she hopes she is indeed happy with her looks because blablabla.

Personally I always think the best way to deal with people who snark like that is to ignore them because when someone wants to get a rise out of people, not giving it to them is the best method.

As to comment policies, I have written an extensive one here: http://www.pittwatch.com/pittwatch-comment-policy/

Let’s try to let go of the hostility and ignore the people who are trying to get a rise out of the fans. :)

Sarah, I’m not going to defend myself. I have already voiced my thoughts on our differences of opinion on the previous thread. I will say that I am not here to impress or offend anyone. If my opinions are taken personally, then, that’s alright because people are entitled to their feelings just as I am entitled to my own perceptions.

But in Joliepittfanatic’s defense, I must say that she has been extraordinarily respectful with her opinions, and I think she has been very objective. Her posts in the recent threads are a very clear indication of this.

I finally read the whole article, and now I have another beef about it, specifically the following excerpt: “Wherever they travel, the kids go with them – sons Maddox, seven, and Pax, four, and daughter Zahara, three, who were all adopted; their biological daughter, two-year-old Shiloh, and now the twins, too.”

One of my biggest pet peeves when it comes to the way the media (and I’m talking legimite media. If the tabs aren’t the most tactful with what they say, that doesn’t bother me too much since practically nobody takes the tabs seriously anyway! :)) goes about reporting on the J-Ps is the fact that they almost always seem to, for some reason, have to make it clear that Maddox, Pax, and Zahara are adopted.

Some of them, such as this article, go even further and say that Maddox, Pax, and Zahara are adopted and Shi and the twins are Angie and Brad’s biologically.

Really, why does it have to be mentioned all the time that the oldest three Jolie-Pitt kids are adopted (other than in articles about/including the J-Ps that are specifically about adoption. I completely understand mentioning Mad, Pax, and Zee being adopted in those types of articles.)? I was actually hoping that would stop once the twins were born, but obviously that hasn’t been the case. :(

It’s obvious that Brad and Angie see all six of their kids as simply their children, plain and simple (Brad even basically said this a little over a year ago by stating that all of his children are just as much his blood as they are his, or something to that affect.).

I greatly respect PEOPLE Magazine and other media sources who refer to all six of Brad and Angie’s kids as just that, their kids (again, with the exception of articles specifically about adoption).

Anyway, another thing related to this issue (the kids being referred to as adopted and biological) that annoys me is that, when Angie was pregnant with Shiloh, most of the media acted like she was their first child (even PEOPLE, who, as I mentioned before, are generally very good about not referring to the kids as adopted or biological, announced on their cover, below the headline “Yes, I’m Pregnant!”, that “Angelina confirms she and Brad Pitt are expecting their first child!”). When Angie was first pregnant with Knox and Viv, the same thing happened. I saw several media sources announcing that Angie and Brad were “expecting their second child” (obviously this was before it was confirmed that Angie was carrying twins).

I wanted to say, “No, they’re expecting their FIFTH child!”

    Hi Sherry
Thanks for all the work you put into the website. You dont need to add this to the comments but I wanted to share with you:

I dont think Angie looks at all like she’s had plastic surgery, she is naturally beautiful as seen by her early modelling photos and by photos of her mother.

Also to settle something, I dont think Angie ever meant to say she and Brad fell in love on the set of MR & Mrs Smith. Her statement was:
‘They (their kids) haven’t seen a lot of our films yet, because they are a little young, but I’m looking forward to them one day discovering Mr and Mrs Smith,’ she smiles. ‘They’re going to have a great laugh – to see when their parents actually met, and watch them fall in love and try to kill each other!’

She is actually saying what happened in the film but when her words were repeated they left off the ‘and try and kill each other’ bit so it sounded like she was talking about her relationship.

I dont think Angie meant what so many are making out.

    Thanks,

    : ) Sam

ITA with you (as often happens :-) ), JoliePittFan. It’s one of my beefs when it comes to the JP kids. Even we once in rare while make an unconscious slip making a difference between the kids when it’s unnecessary.

My other beef is the disappearing the adopted kids of color by cropping them from photos and leaving them out of captions. Ugh Weakly, 12/8/08, has a page “For Kids.” Remember Angie saying the whole family’s learning French? Now, it’s Angie teaching just Shiloh French. Remember Girls Day Out in Cannes in different dresses all in black? They cropped ZeeZee out.

Ligaya- I had no idea that Ugh Weakly had done that! I used to sometimes read it (mostly because they are sometimes more accurate about things than the other tabs, and because they sometimes have “baby albums” and things that you can’t find too often in PEOPLE magazine), but I think I’m going to have to stop.

At least when I have read it, I’ve checked issue out from the library rather than actually buying them, so I haven’t really been supporting Ugh Weakly in any way!

Anyway, I have been getting more and more fed up with Ugh Weakly as it is. Their “Angelina and Brad’s Twins: It was Invitro!” cover really irked me, as did a story they did recently about the interviews Angie did in October and earlier this month to promote Changeling.

There was some misinformation in the article (Angie’s comments about adopting again and Mad being the “professional big brother” were mentioned…and then they went on to say that Mad might have the chance to be a big brother again as soon as January, obviously in reference to Angie’s comment about not being able to begin the adoption process until any new kids are six months old. Even if they do begin the adoption process in January, it will probably take close to a year to go through, just as Pax’s did, so really the earliest Mad will have a chance to be a big brother again will be around this time next year), but that didn’t bug me too much.

What really irked me was that they naturally mentioned Angie’s comment about falling in love on the set of MMS (and thanks to this article, we now know that she was referring to her and Brad’s CHARACTERS falling in love in the movie, not to her relationship with Brad in real life!), and of course they basically pounced all over it.

I refused to even read the issue with the article about them supposedly using IVF. Anyway, hearing what they have done recently in regards to leaving Mad, Pax, and ZeeZee out of photos and captions is the last straw. I may read older issues of Ugh Weakly, but from this point forward, I will not be reading current ones, and there are some I will never read (such as the IVF one).

I do have to chuckle at them stating that Angie’s teaching Shiloh French, though. While I’m sure Angie and Brad are teaching all of the kids French, Shiloh’s probably a bit young to be seriously learning it yet. She’s maybe picked up a word or two, but that’s probably about it.

I hope that, once Knox and Viv get older (and thus can go on more outings and do more things), it will get harder for the tabs to leave the oldest three kids out of things.

So the Twilight vampire dude has, um, a unique hairstyle. One of the tabs had fun putting it on Obama, Ellen, X, etc. – 7 adults, 1 child. No, not Suri – Shiloh. She does look cute – kinda like a baby Edward Scissorhands. If aliens landed in the U.S. and had only tabs as their source of information, they’d think Shiloh was an only child.

Carbon credits………….haha! How very green. Well as long as celebrities and Al Gore feel greener for purchasing carbon credits that really is all that matters.
