Angelina Jolie's op-ed piece on Darfur in Newsweek

I always love when Angelina Jolie writes op-ed pieces about the countries she tries to help through her work with the UNHCR.

In her latest editorial, Angelina writes about the dire situation in Darfur, a place she knows well through her visits and research to raise awareness. I particularly liked this part:

Even if justice is delayed, it must never be denied. The Declaration of Human Rights did not promise freedom or justice or peace.

Also, I think that this piece lays out the truth about the so-called “Angie hates Obama” rumors. It sounds to me as though Angelina fully supports Obama and his administration but still has questions especially because of the fact that she has seen Darfur with her own eyes.

Like many Americans, I support the administration’s willingness to engage diplomatically, even with regimes we abhor. And I believe President Obama and his special envoy Scott Gration will do their best to bring peace to the region. Their policy, though, raises a number of questions. How is the Obama administration’s approach to Sudan an evolution of justice? In addition, when the administration says it intends to work to “improve the lives of the people of Darfur,” I would like to know what that means, besides the obvious point that their lives could hardly get worse.

Finally, her closing remarks are poignant and to the point:

On this Human Rights Day–the same day President Obama receives his Nobel Peace Prize–we must also remember those who have been deprived of their rights. Holding perpetrators of mass atrocities accountable is the best way to ensure justice today and peace in the future. Sudan is the place to start.

The full article can be read at Newsweek. I’d love to hear your thoughts!

What makes Angie different is that she is genuine. She’s the real deal. This is what drives the tabloids crazy, because there’s nothing you can do with genuine. Look at the pics of her with Ali. There is nothing else you need to know about her. She is all heart. The way she has her hand on his face, she’s a sweetheart.

Thanks for the videos. I’ve seen it this evening on ET & EXTRA, so sweet. It reminds me of one of the videos during one of the awards when Angie was already pregnant with Knox & Viv. ( they haven’t announced yet that they were expecting back then).God bless the Jolie-Pitt family.

Thanks to everyone who showed pictures from the UNICEF ball! How much do you want to bet, though, that the tabs will take pictures like this one: http://justjared.buzznet.com/photo-gallery/2401183/angelina-jolie-brad-pitt-unicef-ball-02/ , where Angie is showing affection to whoever that guy is (I don’t know his name), and claim Angie was trying to make Brad jealouse or something?

That being said, all I can say about those photos of Angie and Brad being affectionate is AWWWWWWWWWWW! And the video of Brad kissing Angie’s forehead? I practically melted into a puddle watching it!

joliepittfanatic – that guy Angie ís hugging is a former boxing champion and legend Muhammed Ali. There are some other pics in which Angie is pictured with him and she´s sitting in Brad´s lap. But the cutest pic of those is absoutely the one in which Brad and Angie shake Mr. Ali´s hand. They both look to be at awe meeting this living legend. God bless the JPs!

haha! joliepittfanatic – that is Ali! the boxing legend! and I don’t think the tabz are going to put an issue about Angie hugging him, because as some of tabz have said already, Angie and Brad are like star struck when they saw him, that’s why Angie hugged him and Brad shake his hands! i can’t believe they are star struck! haha!

Kati – i love the pic when Angie is sitting on Brad’s lap! her hands are stroking on Brad’s hair that time, aawww! so sweet! but the video of them, Brad kissing Angie’s forehead twice and long is the best! :)

mia_cal – I agree with you. It does sound as though she is being critical of the president and rightly so. For heaven sake, he won a peace prize! Angelina is not afraid to speak up for what she believes in and should be applauded – even when her views don’t agree with the ultra liberal Hollywood elite. I am extremely disappointed in Obama’s plans. He duped a lot of people with his promise of change but too many of us didn’t consider that the change could be for the worse.
