Angelina Jolie’s World Refugee Day PSA

It starts with a simple request with Angelina Jolie pleading, “Please don’t turn away”. With World Refugee Day coming up on June 20th, Angie recorded a new PSA for the UNHCR, reminding people that the plight of refugees is ongoing.

Angelina asks us not to forget them, the “most vulnerable people on Earth”. The UNHCR has been my personal charitable organization of choice for years now. On the 20th I’ll be thinking of refugees around the world and thanking Angelina Jolie for being such a tireless champion of refugee needs and rights and for using her extreme fame to draw attention to the people who most deserve it.

    some tidbits I didn’t know:

“30-second public service announcement was also *co-produced* by Jolie and is being *shown every six minutes on 172 monitors at Washington’s Dulles and Reagan airports*.” (Examiner.com)

Thanks for posting the PSA, Sherry.

    Here’s last year’s PSA: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HFuGiAC9xcI.

I’m an example of someone directly affected by my admiration for Angelina. I’ve been an activist seen 1970s – protesting in the streets, sit-ins, picket signs, petitions, letter-writing, phone-calling, lobbying in the halls of Congress, emailing, etc. – on all sorts of peace & justice causes. I’ve always supported UN-related causese, but never done anything or contributed money except to UNICEF occasionally.

Ever since Sherry’s drive a couple (?) of years ago, I’ve made UNHCR a priority as a personal donation or xmas gift from others. Plus, this year, since I’ve gone on Facebook to promote SUGAR, I’ve dedicated this month to posting about UNHCR/refugees/Goodwill Ambassador Angelina Jolie.

“United Nations International Day in Support of Victims of Torture”.
I would like to take this opportunity to thanks Angelina Jolie, Microsoft corporation and 25 other law firms who form and KIND. This particular organization is intended to help children who immigrate to the United States and have no known adult accompaniment.
To begin new lives in the United States, one of the many challenges after my medical condition and Immigration matter was how to find the transitional Housing for refugee survivor of torture. I feel vulnerable to my physical condition, and I was worried that I could make it.
Many times the victims must flee alone, enduring long periods of separation from their families who might otherwise provide emotional support. I will like to work with children victims of Torture who are separated from their families. Assisted this children survivors put the pieces back together by providing Care support they need to re-establish healthy after their experiences of torture. Thanks for sponsoring The World Refugee Day Poster Contest for children.
While waiting for Angelina Jolie’s response to my request, please accept my expression of gratitude.

Those bears are a great idea. I also didn’t know that Brad’s sister had adopted a child also. Above someone mentions that Brad and Angie are up for Teen Choice Awards and I thought it was quite interesting when I was looking at my granddaughters year books last night there was a picture of Brad and Angie. In the part of the year book that mentions many important people or events from 2008 and 2009. There was a picture of the them last year at Cannes KFP red carpet (green dress) and write-up about the Jolie-Pitts adding twins to their family. It went on and mentioned each of their children, birth places and age. And then how much good Brad and Angie do for others. So that goes to prove that teens also have respect for this family.

Fox wants to date Angelina Jolie

London, June 16 (PTI) ‘Transformers’ star Megan Fox who recently split from Brian Austin Green, wants to date Hollywood superstar Angelina Jolie.

Fox who says she is “single” after splitting from Brian Austin Green believes that starting a romance with the ‘Tomb Raider’ actress would solve all her problems, the Heat magazine reported.

Asked if she has a crush on Jolie, who has six children with partner Brad Pitt, Fox said, “Absolutely. Every time a relationship ends, I say, ‘If I could just be Angelina’s girlfriend, I would be so happy.’” “I love Angelina Jolie. She’s someone I admire and look up to. She’s my favourite actress in Hollywood. I just love that she’s incredibly honest, and I feel that she’s not afraid to be herself. She tells you exactly what’s on her mind,” Fox added.

However apart from Jolie, Fox seems to have no interest in making friends with other Hollywood actresses.

“I don’t have any friends who are actresses. I actually only had one girlfriend growing up. Most of my friends were boys. I was such a tomboy,” Fox said. PTI

When AJ talks about refugees, the people listen. Her message is always something to think about and to encourage the public to help them.

I am looking forward to her interview with Anderson Cooper on the World Refugee Day.

The NEW Adoption Bears are the first of a series of bears that celebrate the joy of adopting. The best-selling Minky Patchwork Bear features your child’s name on the chest and a flag of their birthplace on the foot. Retail price $75.

The inspiration for the Adoption Bears was from Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie’s children. They received six bears for each of their children in a gift basket by Jewels and Pinstripes. After Brad’s sister, Julie Neal (also an adoptive parent) saw his bears, she couldn’t wait to order one for her son. Read below for her personal review:

I saw the bears that Jennifer had made for my brother’s kids and I went nuts over them. I have recently adopted from Ethiopia as well and wanted a bear for my son. I e-mailed Jennifer- I didn’t know if she just made them for the celebrity baskets or would make them for anyone. She had just made up the countries idea because my nieces and nephews are all born in different countries. She was so sweet and amazing and decided to offer an adoption line of bears for people to help celebrate adoption. I was so excited, because everything you find to be personalized includes the weight, time, hospital, etc… of the child. This is not information that we have on our son. Now I have a bear for him that includes his African and American name and his birth country. I am so thankful for her creativity and the idea she came up with to honor the countries that make up our big family. I ordered several for gifts right away and can’t wait to see what all she comes up with. I bet when she made these bears for my brother’s children she never thought what all would come with it. She has been so nice and accommodating to what ever ideas I have. Thanks Jennifer!!!!

Thank you, God, for Angelina Jolie and many other people fighting for human rights, freedom, health, refugees… The message was touching. You can see Angie’s big heart coming out of her voice. God bless her and her family.
Angie, keep up the good work.

It’s good that there is a day like this that would help remember the plight of the refugees. While I know there are very other people in the world suffering, these people who have no country or any place to call hoome really need help. It is good that Angie is doing what she can to bring their plight to light.

Angie has been sponsoring The World Refugee Day Poster Contest for children. She will present an award to winners at the World Refugee Day ceremony on June 18 in Washington, DC. Winning posters will be exhibited at the National Geographic Museum. (I had seen the past winner’s works. Children have great imagination and they are fantastic artist)

“Refugees are the most vulnerable people on earth. Every day they are fighting to survive. They deserve our respect. Think about what you would need to survive as a refugee. How would you want people to treat you? Design a poster using your imagination and creativity to show how we can help refugees.” – Angelina Jolie
