Angelina Jolie’s World Refugee Day PSA

It starts with a simple request with Angelina Jolie pleading, “Please don’t turn away”. With World Refugee Day coming up on June 20th, Angie recorded a new PSA for the UNHCR, reminding people that the plight of refugees is ongoing.

Angelina asks us not to forget them, the “most vulnerable people on Earth”. The UNHCR has been my personal charitable organization of choice for years now. On the 20th I’ll be thinking of refugees around the world and thanking Angelina Jolie for being such a tireless champion of refugee needs and rights and for using her extreme fame to draw attention to the people who most deserve it.

I received an email today from UNHCR about their World Refugee Day activities. The information below was included. It gives a specific time for Angie’s interview on June 18th.

Watch Anderson Cooper’s CNN interview – Thursday, June 18th at 10PM EST – with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Angelina Jolie.

    Thanks Sherry for this thread.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are still pretty cool in the eyes of teens.

The two picked up two 2009 Teen Choice Awards.

Pitt is up for “Choice Movie Star: Drama” for his role as a man aging backwards in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. He faces off against Hugh Jackman (Australia); Dev Patel (Slumdog Millionaire); Robert Pattinson (Twilight) and Channing Tatum (Fighting).

See Brad and Angelina’s Cannes PDA!

For “Choice Movie Actress: Drama,” Jolie, who plays the mother of a kidnapped son in Changeling, competes against Nicole Kidman (Australia), Beynonce (Obsessed), Freida Pinto (Slumdog Millionaire) and Kristen Stewart (Twilight).

Both Pitt and Jolie are also up against each other in the category of “Choice Celebrity Activist.” (Pitt and his sibs just gave 1 million to help a Missouri hospital open a new pediatric cancer center.) Also competing for the title: Leonardo DiCaprio, Hayden Panettiere and Natalie Portman.

Pitt and Jolie weren’t the only stars to get Teen Choice love.

Twilight and its cast lead this year’s nominees with an impressive 12 nominations. High School Musical 3: Senior Year and its cast, Miley Cyrus and Gossip Girl and its cast each scored 10
nominations, while American Idol earned seven nods.

See a complete nominations list here. Starting today, fans ages 13-19 can vote once each day for their favorite
    nominee at http://www.teenchoiceawards.com.

Thank you for this video, Sherry! It´s very touching. It´s great to see how dedicated Angie is to this cause. There are millions of refugees all around the world for whom Angie is doing a marvellous job by defending their rights. As a mother she sure feels a lot for those families who have absolutely nothing and have to live in the refugee camps. She sure is very touched when she meets children and their families who were forced out of their home countries for one reason or the other. She and also Brad are doing their best to help these people who deserve to be remembered every day. Still it´s great that there is an official World Refugee Day arranged by UN. God bless Angelina and her beautiful family always! Keep up the good work, Angie!

Angelina never stop helping the less fortunate. Refugees need so much help, thanks to her for doing what she can, by bringing attention to thier need for protection.

Doing good in this world will not stop other from saying bad things about you, but it will bring passion and peace to your soul, while others are tormented.

Thank you for putting up a thread on this PSA. I like it. How true it takes so little for anyone of us to become a refugee. Thanks to a good education, I’ve always been able to find a place to welcome me when being an immigrant Chinese became a bit of a liability in some countries in South East Asia. Yet, a lot of my not being a refugee was due to God’s grace.

She does a great job and inspires us to look for a way to help.

Wow, just the sound of her voice sends shivers up my spine. She is so moving in this plea.
