Anna Paquin who plays Sookie Stackhouse on HBO’s new drama True Blood won a Golden Globe Sunday night for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series — Drama.
Paquin beat out some really tough competition — Sally Field, Brothers & Sisters (ABC), Mariska Hargitay, Law & Order, January Jones, Mad Men (AMC) and Kyra Sedgwick, The Closer (TNT).
Though I love Paquin in True Blood (one of my favorite shows), I was surprised she won. Not because she doesn’t deserve it, but because the show is new and I didn’t think she would be at the top of everyone’s radar. Of course, she has previously won an Oscar for her role on the movie The Piano.
I wish the series True Blood would have won the Best Television Series — Drama category, but hopefully they will be nominated next year. This year’s winner was AMC’s Mad Men. Click here for a complete list of the Golden Globes Awards winners.
Here’s a video of Paquin winning the award, followed by a red carpet interview with the cast:
When interviewed by E!, Paquin said, “This is pretty extraordinary icing on the cake.”
I love how the award presenters described Paquin as a:
“mind-reading barmaid in love with a vampire.”
That pretty much tells the story!
Here are a few Golden Globe photos of Paquin as well as some of her other True Blood cast members.

We are so happy for Anna Paquin’s win! True Blood is really getting the recognition it deserves and I cannot wait until Season 2 premier this summer!
We’re bummed that the show didn’t win, but at least Anna Paquin took home the golden globe. Many were surprised but we are very proud of her and the show!
