This was the first time seeing the introduction. Ah, the song is different! Why is Tyra blonde? I like the intro though, it’s very modern and sleek. Within the first thirty seconds, the girls get typecast. Marvita is the girl who reaaaallly reaaaallly wants it, Amis is the “weird” one, Kim is the not-so-bright one, Fatima is the bi-atch. I’m sure the rest of the girls will be given roles by the time the episode is over.
I’m glad they are back in New york. It’s truly a fashion capital.
The girls get keys to the house, and the house is gorgeous. It’s filled with the obligatory Tyra/Top Model winner portraits. The best part of the house is that there seem to be very few sleeping spaces–several bunk beds an one giant bed. This house is set-up for cat-fights! And pillow fights!
Just like last year, the house is a no smoking house. Amy, Kim (whose voice is annoying, I hope that was just a weird soundbite!) and Fatima prompty ignore the no-smoking signs and smoke away. I hope they get called on that at panel. Fatima brings up her circumcision again (anyone else feel like this is going to be a major crutch issue? I truly feel for her, but it’s definitely being used as a ploy of some sort. Perhaps it’s just editing!).
Aimee had to change her name because being Amy S. and Aimee R. isn’t very model-y. Aimee decided to go with Amis because “it’s in the bible.” Isn’t the name in the bible Amos? I’m not sure, who can help me out?
Jay and Miss J show up to give the girls a tour of NYC. Of course the tour turns into an impromptu Bagdley Mischka fashion show in Times Square! This goes as expected, except Kim was unimpressed to be wearing such expensive clothing and Claire was super impressed. The best part? Mid J’s face when Lauren came down the runway! Hilarious!
Marvita is super-nervous and this is becoming a major plot-point in this episode. This, and how Marvita can’t stand Fatima. I can only hope the subject matter diversifies!
So Tyra Mail this season is a scrollng news thing like in Times Square. Which the girls read aloud.
The girls get to go to Elite Model management to get trashed by brand new judge Paulina Porizkova. She warns the girls that modeling is a very brutal industry, and proceeds to prove it! Amis has bad skin, Dominique is a drag queen, Kim is from High School Musical, and Marvita has a smushed face.
The photoshoot is about homelessness. The girls are posing with homeless people. I’m sorry, but what? There are ways that I’m sure are way more beneficial to the homeless population of NYC than having a million dollar photo shoot with wannabe models. Also, what sort of message does this send to the troubled girls participating in the photo shoot? I’d love to hear about the long-term plans ANTM has with these organizations they are working with today. I want to like this concept, but it needs to be a very small part of a bigger program.
The photo shoot did bring Marvita and Fatima together, though. I wonder how long this newfound friendship will last. Dominque, Marvita, Anya and Fatima rocked it, Kim and Amis did not. Stacy Ann seemed a little too bubbly for the subject matter. Claire really seemed to understand the message and was inspired by it, which I appreciate. She’s shaping up to be an early favorite of mine. Whitney appeared to do a good job as well, but you never really know who rocks and who doesn’t until you get to see their photos at panel.
Kim is really getting the going home edit. Twice in this episode, she’s talking about how she doesn’t “get” high fashion. Not cool.
Miss J’s vest has the girls names Velcro-ed to it. After every elimination, he’ll pull a name off. After a giant ruffled collar and a giant afro, this is the best he could do?
Tyra then creates a dramatic introduction for new judge Paulina, who looks gorgeous and model-esque. As much as I love Twiggy, she never really looked like a model when she was at panel.
Lauren, Anya, Amy, Dominique, Whitney, Claire all get pretty positive feedback. Amis, Allison, Atalya, and Stacy Ann all get not-so-great feedback. There was nothing too surprising, shocking or spectacular about these photos or feedback, which is to be expected, since it’s the girls’ first shoot.
Then Kim blows it by saying “fashion doesn’t interest me at all!” I love the guilt-inspired flashback! And then Kim JUST GOES. And, of course, her photo is fantastic. And, of course, Tyra will still eliminate someone.
The bright side? That means there’s probably a non-elimination episode in our future!
After the deliberation and the mandatory corny jokes, Anya gets called first. It comes down to Amis and Atalya. Atalya heads home and I feel no pain. She hardly got any screen time, and you know Amis is going to make for better television than a level-headed pretty girl.
Best of luck Atalya!
Next Week: Makeovers! I’m excited to see Fatima getting a normal hair color and watching Jay figure out what to do with Claire’s half-buzzed hair!
Who do you think is going to cry the most next week? What makeover do you want to see the most?

no atalya did NOT deserve to go home she is beautiful and commercial/fashion and i loved her, forget all these haters, she look hella good her runway walk is fierce. she will surprise all of u!!!!!!
WHO GOT KICKED OFF LAST NIGHT? My DVR goofed up.
You mixed up the Amis and amiee.
Amy = Amis
A little confusing
Yes, Amos is the name of the minor Old Testament prophet in the Bible… and he was a man.
Atalya – I’m fine with them sending her home; I think it was the right choice.
Kim – I think she’ll be kicking herself one day for ruining this huge opportunity that she had. Or she’ll just blissfully float along in ignorance and think it’s no big deal.
Claire – I think she has more tricks up her sleeve; I don’t think the editing does her justice.
Favorites… Claire, for sure. And Katarzyna.
Least favorites… Allison and Fatima. I know that attitude and conflict make good reality TV, but must we put up with two drama queens?
Fatima – Totally manipulative. She pretends to be soooo sweet and innocent, but you can tell she’s totally playing on everyone’s insecurities
Marvita – She’ll lose it. I give her three more episodes.
OK THIS WAS AN AWESOME EPISODE WITH NO SPOILERS.
ABSOLUTELY RIGHT. ATALYA DIDN’T SHINE AT ALL. I CRIED COZ OF AMIS I LOVE THAT GIRL
KIM IS THE FUNNIEST GIRL THERE. SHE WAS DUMB. I AIN’T MAD BUT SHE WAS BAD. SHE WAS JUST DUMB DUMB DUMB. HER REASON TO GO HOME WAS STUPID AND SHE SHOULD HAVE SUCK IT IN AND STAYED NOT RUIN HER REPUTATION.
CLAIRE WELL I KNEW CLAIRE WAS INTO FASHION.
I LOVE KATARYZNA,ANYA,AMIS,WHITNEY AND DOMINIQUE ALSO AIMEE. THOSE GIRLS ARE STUNNING
FATIMA IS MANIPULATIVE AND BLUNT. I RESPECT HER AND I LIKE HER BUT SHE’S JUST IN YOUR FACE TYPE OF GIRL. I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO SEE WHAT SHE DOES. I WANT MARVITA,LAUREN AND ALLISON OUT. ALSO CLAIRE BECAUSE SHE’S A BIG THREAT AND SHE’S TOO WEIRD.
MARVITA CAN HANDLE IT BUT SHE’S THE WORST. I HATE HER PHOTO AND SHE LOOKS LIKE A MAN.
