Challenge: Covergirl Commercial and photo shoot
Eliminated First: Fatima
Fashion Show: Versace
Winner: Whitney
Can Anya look and act the part of a top model? Can Fatima listen up and learn? Can Whitney fix her flaws? Who writes these questions?
I wonder if they’ll keep the new song and intro look for the next cycle. I really like it, it feels a lot more modern and fashion-forward than the old one. Or maybe they’ll mix it up again.
We open with Anya talking about how her confidence has increased over the course of the show. Fatima’s interview is along the same lines, but her journey begins back when she was in Somalia. As far as hard-knock stories go, Whitney will never be able to top that. We do learn that Anya and Whitney are friends and that Whitney wants them to be the top two. I seriously doubt Whitney could beat Anya in a walk off. A commercial, yes, but not a walk-off.
The girls find out it’s Covergirl commercial time and already the editors are highlighting Anya’s speech problems. Things do not look good for our blonde pixie.
Saleisha finally shows up. It only took her eleven episodes. She’s going to give the girls priceless make-up and modeling advice.
Anya is overwhelmed. Again, I worry. Like, she’s crying. It looks like she’s going to shoot herself in the foot. I hope not. Buck up Anya!
Fatima is up first. She has the script pretty much down pat but struggles with making it sound natural.
Whitney is second and she struggles even more than Fatima does. She doesn’t have the lines down pat and seems nervous. However, she’s a lot more natural than she was during her last commercial, so kudos for her on that.
Anya is last. She, like all of the girls, looks gorgeous. They all look like models during this shoot! Anya doesn’t struggle as much as they set her up to do, so I breathe a big sigh of relief.
I’m really excited to see their Covergirl commercial pictures. It’s going to be the Times Square Billboard, which is cool. Have they ever done that before?
Whitney’s interviews are becoming more natural and less evil. I’m glad to see that, but it’s totally symptomatic of being in the final three. All the girls are fairly endearing during their interviews this episode. Awww.
It’s panel time and Tyra calls the girls “the top three baddest chicks club.” WTF?
Whitney’s commercial is judged first and it’s okay.Tyra says she looks stiff and Paulina says she was a Miss America pageant. I think she looks stunned in her photo, but the judges really like it.
Fatima gets judged second. Her commercial is better than Whitney’s, I thought, but Paulina rips into her too. Her photo is amazing but this time it’s Tyra’s turn to be negative. Not cool.
Anya is last and her commercial is clearly the worst. But Tyra calls it the best. Anya’s clearly the most natural and the judges pick up on that and rave about it. However, they call her photo flat and Paulina goes as far to say she looks “stupid” in her photo.
It’s actually pretty hard to tell who is going home. Tyra reveals that the girls get to talk in the Versace show, which is huge! no high school gym! No random fashion show where the only spectators are paid actors and the judges! No pretending to be ghost brides! I’m grateful, Tyra, truly grateful.
After the judges deliberate incoherently, it’s time to send someone home. The first to go on to the final two Anya! Fatima and Whitney are left to duke it out in the bottom two. The judges feel they don’t know Whitney and that Fatima doesn’t really get what it mean to be a model yet. Therefore, they keep Whitney.
I wonder how Donatella will feel about this.
Fatima has a really gracious exit and I wish her all the best.
Back at the house, Anya interviews that Whitney is beautiful when she is vulnerable and Whitney interviews about how hard it is to be plus-sized.
The girls then get to shoot the July cover of Seventeen magazine and the photographer is Nigel Barker. The photo shoot theme is 4th of July. The photo shoot goes really, really quickly, which makes sense. Versace is a huge name and they need to dedicate tons of screen time to it.
I love how Jay takes credit for the entire concept for the show. Do you really think that’s true? And why is Saleisha leading the show when tons of other true supermodels would be psyched to do it? Did Donatella know what she was getting into? But then again, Donatella is delightfully tacky. This is probably right up her alley!
I’ll never understand why the judges get as much attention as the designers during these runway shows. Saleisha opens the show and she looks amazing.
Anya struggles with her second dress but Whitney looks amazing in the pink dress.
Both Whitney and Anya look amazing on the runway. I’m impressed.
At the panel, both the girls look like Versace Barbie.
The judges say that Anya didn’t bring it as strong as she could have on the runway. Paulina tries to defend her but Miss J shoots her down. Miss J is all about Whitney.
The portfolio showdown results in both girls get good and bad feedback. I seriously don’t know who is going to win, but my money is on Whitney.
During deliberation, it’s clean that Paulina is gunning for Anya and Tyra is gunning for Whitney. Nigel and Miss J seem torn.
When the girls come back, Tyra decides that it’s appropriate to announce the winner in baby speak.
And Whitney wins.
Anya exits gracefully and positively. And Whitney exits again with talk about how she’s so different and all the hardship she has overcome. Because being a size 10 is so damn hard.
Congrats Whitney!!

Who were you rooting for at the beginning of this episode? Claire, she was so different and potentially high fashion…and I loved her personality.
Whose Covergirl commercial was the best? Worst? None of them were awesome, but I think Anya’s was the best, if you could call it that.
Whose Covergirl photo was the best? Worst? Whitney’s was the most “Cover Girl” and Anya’s was surprising bad. I agree with Paulina…it made her look stupid.
How did you feel about Paulina calling Anya stupid? She could have clarified what she meant better…she just meant that she had a dumb look on her face in the picture. She’s still gorgous though.

Whitney did seem fake but sometimes you have to fake it to make it but she was too fake. I told everyone she was going to win when they put her in the top. Now that a plus size girl won I’m glad! Skinny girls with their ribs all showing is unhealthy and for people to say Whitney is unhealthy they are haters. It’s a haters job to hate. If she didn’t win people wouldn’t be talking all that smack. Now that a big girl won people got everything to say. Well, I say good job Whitney, you got curves and you are a good size. Beautiful comes in all shapes and sizes. YOU ROCK WHITNEY!

i personally didnt want her to win bc i didnt like her personality…she just seemed so incredibly fake!!! she doesnt have an aproachable attitude…it doesnt matter if she’s plus size, if anything that is the only reason im glad she won!! im in the in betwwen stage where im not skinny enough but to small for plus size…i just hope that can open some doors

I’m not trying to argue her but fat is pretty. Not like 180 pounds fat like the same weight about Whitney fat. When people say fat is ugly and thin is the best, I disagree. Have you seen Fatima’s underwear photo shoot? Her body looks absolutely disgusting. You were able to see her ribs. All I’m saying is that too skinny isn’t pretty and neither is too fat.
SO SHUT THE HELL UP YOU ANOREXIC FREAKS WHO SAY WHITNEY ISN’T GOING TO MAKE IT IN THE FASHION WORLD!

I think its sad that we live in a world where more than half of the population of women is plus sized. It’s just unhealthy. I hate how skinny girls are now being attacked for having perfect bodies- some go too far in their quest for skinniness- but most are perfect and healthy sizes (not to mention beautiful.) Just because some fat girls are too lazy to get off their butts and stop eating so many chips, it doesn’t mean the standard of beauty has to be lowered for them. No wonder the rest of the world hates us- we’re ugly! Fat and cellulite is not beautiful for a reason- it’s gross and unhealthy.
seriously? whitney is a gorgeous girl who looks amazing in photographs. anya sounded and acted like a moron throughout most of the cycle, and paulina was entirely right to say she looked stupid in her photo, because she did. she was a stereotype, not a model. and you know, people saying whitney won’t have a career…over half the female population of the united states (this is AMERICA’S next top model, in case you’ve forgotten) is whitney’s size or bigger. stop calling her a cow and think about how gorgeous she looked in the pink versace gown at judging. yeah, maybe she’ll work for lane bryant, but how is that any different from some scrawny girl like fatima getting a contract with forever 21? you make it sound like having a contract with a huge chain of stores is a bad thing.
first of all, congrats whitney! for all the haters, she was a victim of reality tv editing. they made her out to be the bitch bc she wasnt afraid to stand up for herself or the other girls! I think shes beautiful (though that blond weave was a dumb idea, i thought she was classier as a brunette)
i really thought they were gonna go for anya, though ive been wrong about every winner! (is it me or are the judges that off from everyone else?) but i agree the judges were protecting anya and fatima the whole time. can we forget that fatima missed a whole photo shoot bc she was not responsible enough to get her papers in check?! and fatima always looks so dumpy at panel like she just rolled out of bed. at least dominique tried to dress up! and anya’s sweetness was starting to rub me the wrong way. too over-the-top, too fake-y. i think she would break her first week as a top model. at least whit has a backbone. and i agree- anya’s walk was def weakest. the skinny dress was unfair, but she looked uncomfortable. whitney was working it.

whitney is just so…barbie/miss america. the only thing that mattered to her on the season was her looking “pretty.” it was so annoying last night when she kept going on and on about how girls used to tease and pick on her. hello, doesnt every girl go through that stage at some point in her life? get over yourself!

i am completely dissapointed with the finals of ANTM. there is now way that whitney should have won especially over anya. i thought that they had gotten that disgrace of a cycle (9) that is. fatima and anya should have been the finalists. i am completely dissapointed. no offence to whitney but compared to anya and fatima she does not even register. just whn i thought the show was redeeming itself it just fell flat. 1st saleshia now whitney antm has now become a show for making statements and givin chances not for awarding 2 of the best models ive seen on the show. well it just goes to show that the winner will never be as sucessful as those with true potential case in point mollie sue and eleyse
I must be a little lost. But can someone tell me all the fine points about Season 9, how it was “rigged” and Saleisha winning? I’m not trying to argue, I just honestly want to know, I must not have been watching very closely.

Well I don’t think stupid is the right word. I would have just said that she looked like she was wishing up upon the sky.

Yep. I’ve always loved Whitney because I’m also a plus-size girl and Anya has always has this effect on me even thought her accent was funny.
Why did Versace agree to be the ANTM show?
I’m not quite sure because some websites say that those dresses aren’t Versace but I do adore that pink number Whitney was wearing.

Definitely Whitney. Anya was too still. Whitney tends to swing her hands to much but that’s what makes her unique.

Anya. She has never been in the bottom 2 and her photos are always fabulous.

If it was between Anya and Whitney I would pink Whitney. It is time ANTM has a plus-size winner. Her pictures are gorgeous.

Yes, it made the most sense to me. Fatima coasted along through the whole competition. She was lucky she had that 1 good shot week after week.

Because Tyra asked her to? Exposure is always a good thing.

Whitney certainly had the most energy, but she was WAY over-the-top. I just wish Anya would have had more in her. She should have known that it’s the runway walk in the last episode that makes or breaks you. You screw up the catwalk, you go home regardless if you had the best photos or not.

Well, my pick was Anya. I wish she would have given more oompf at the end, but her nerves got the best of her. Still, I think it’s cool that Whitney won.
