ANTM Casting Director Chats with Entertainment Weekly

Michelle Mock-Falcon, who has been a casting director with America’s Next Top Model for several cycles, chatted with Entertainment Weekly’s PopWatch blog yesterday about Cycle 13 and the new casting requirements.

“Since the show started, we’ve always had girls under 5’7″ asking and begging, quite frankly, Tyra to please give them a chance,” she says. “I mean, she would get stopped in the street, in restaurants, anywhere, by girls asking how they can do it being as short as they are. We’ve been thinking about it for a while now, what a great opportunity to give these girls that opportunity. The show is all about opportunity….”

Michelle also responds to the possibility of opening up Cycles to other types of models – for example, having a plus-sized season or a male model season.

“Maybe one of these days she’s gonna give the guys an opportunity,” Michelle says. “We get guys that come to the auditions all the time. They’re begging us to do males as well. Maybe they’ll get their wish, too.”

Michelle also offered up pretty good advice for anyone thinking about attending Cycle 13′s casting calls. Keep it simple with jeans, a tank top, heels, a ponytail and no makeup. The judges want to get past everything and assess each girl on their true, natural beauty.

I’m skeptical, but excited for how Cycle 13 will play out. I think it really depends on the strength of the girls and the kinds of challenges and photo shoots the girls are given. We’ll have to wait and see – Cycle 13 doesn’t air until September 2009!

Thankfully, Cycle 12 premieres this Wednesday, March 4th. Be sure to tune in a 8pm for a special two-hour episode. And remember to stop by here during the show because I’ll be liveblogging the episode! Come join the conversation!

i went to an audition in nyc..it was the very first time that i auditioned. the reason why all those chaos happened was because lack off organization, such as, no lines,. women looks like wild animals in a cage, so what happened every1 needs to use the bathroom, freezing, hunger,so people starts arguing and getting pushed…plus the whole thing was a front. they already pick who they want from audition tape..they were a twin girls who arrived at 3 pm..like they were picked already..one thing i know the twins were behind me which i arrived at 10 ..so its bullshit..all we did was a 1 min. name age height weight ..so they dont look at u really bcoz they already pick it from tape.. they make girls act stupid so they can get their rating ..im 5’0..they still pick tall girls..its all about ratings not helping someone dreams.. i bet u the twins is on the top 12 thats why they hush hush..the show is about them..

I wish those tips about being extremely plain were publicized. Also when you say 5’7 and under do you mean 5’6 b/c I saw none of the people closer to 5’0 being picked. We have alot to offer as well. Maybe you’ll give us another shot!

There was already a show for male models called Manhunt. You also still have Make Me a Supermodel that does men and women as well. As for the plus model cycle, well she gave the crown to Whitney so I think that ship has sailed but if she did, I’d hope she’d have more girls like Renn and Fluvia and Justine Legault and Joanna Dray as opposed to Whitney. Also, this is Tyra we’re talking about so a lot of us are leary that she’ll still somehow wind-up with the worst looking girls. The other shows at least cast people who like they can be actual models but Tyra casts more for personality than looks and she’s stuck in that ’90s mode when she was coming up and made it. So a lot of us are hoping that she’ll at least have girls who look like models even if they are short and that they will focus on training them for glamour type modeling or things that short girls can do and not runway.

If they have an all male cycle it would be such a boring cycle. Male modelling is sooo dull…

if they do this……..they should let guys in too.
