Any Jesse James reactions?

I can’t see Brad Pitt’s new movie The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford yet because it isn’t playing anywhere near me at this time. However, I’d love to hear some reactions. Have any of you awesome readers gone to see it yet if it was released in your area? Please feel free to share what you thought of it! As with most movies, it’s been getting a mix of reviews.

Monsters And Critics gave it a pretty good review:

Unlike previous treatments of legend Jesse James, this story keeps the focus on the relationship between James and his eventual killer, cousin Bob Ford. Refusing to be a western, the film is a psychological study of the mutual disintegration of the two men. James eventually self-destructs amidst a legion of imaginary devils born of his murderous quest for revenge in the wake of the Civil War. Ford degenerates into a parasite with no life other than the pieces of Jesse James his cousin doles out to him, complete with the psychotic self-hatred and random violence that made up the last days of his life.

Brad Pitt has large shoes to fill, playing a man who has become much bigger in death than he was in life. In the smartest move of the film Dominik devotes zero screen time to the Buffalo Bill antics of the popular version of the American gun-slinger and keeps the focus on his spiraling psychological breakdown. Pitt depicts James not as a fearless Robin Hood supported by the ill-treated Union masses in the wake of the war, but as a traumatized veteran cast adrift in peacetime without closure and with no alternative means to violence in making a living.

Okay, your turn!

Watched the movie on Friday at the Calgary Film Festival. Totally loved Brad’s and Casey’s performances, the colours, the lights, the way the story is told, the prairies, the trees, the bits of humour despite the tragedy…
It is not a western, it is not the kind of movie for everybody. Maybe that’s why I read some strange reviews on the net.
2 days later, my mind is still there.

BTW The ancestors of jessie James have commented on the movie at http://www.ericjames.org/Reviews/AssassinationofJesseJames/index.html

Samantha that may be a fair point that you are filled with thoughts about what the tabloids are saying but isn’t that the problem, people focus so much on the tabloids that the tabloids continue to make money about any celebrity by printing untrue stories. Remember “Britney will lose her kids tomorrow”. The judge was smarter than that and realised that both parents need work. Lets be smart too. Because Angelina and Brad said nothing for a year the desire to know grew and grew and despite the fact that people predict their demise daily, weekly, monthly and yearly they seem to be stay together and that amazes people so it is us, or rather you who look at an actor and not the story and focus on the crap printed.

Ok Winnie, am guessing you are not a fan, because if you were then you wouldnt be make these comments about our two favorite people on the planet. The majority of the reporters are there to ask questions about brad, angie and the kids, and then the movie, the reporters can’t help it, brad and angie are A-list stars who got together and fell in love, and people like me, love a good love story and its even better when you’re a big fan of these two, like I am. Interviewers and reporters want to know about the family and he is happy to let them know that they are fine and happy, what the hell do you expect them to do and say? If they said “no coment” then you and the other haters will have something else to complain about, its really sad and getting on my last nerve that whatever these two do, it will always be wrong. And by the way Winnie the site is call “pittwatch” it for brad and angie fans, if you are not a fan, then you shouldn’t be here to comment on them. This is a really nice site, lets keep it that way. I too live in Florida and ‘jesse james’ its not in any movie houses around here, but when it gets here I will be the first in line, I simply can’t wait to see this movie. I have only read good reviews so far and I will let you guys now how good it is:)

Winnie, we were asked about the opinions of the movie and you sadly you did not talk about how great it was or how bad it was. Yes it is long, we were told that before.

I have not seen the movie so was hoping for honest reviews. So were you spending all those long hours thinking “what did they do to promote this movie”.

I hope not then you wasted you money whether you enjoyed the movie or not.

Sherry, there are new pictures of Brad today on the set of his new movie. JJ posted them earlier.

I have watched M&Ms about 10 times. Winnie sounds like she should be at another site. If she is a Brad fan than she should be happy for him. Angie is his great love and an amazing mother to his children. His words not mine. They are both doing great humanitarian work.

Also, the promotion of this movie was really low key.

No premiere in LA but a short one on NYC.
    and 2 film festivals.

    To Winnie…

In case you have been living under a rock….these two(Pitt and Jolie) are already semi-retired.

Jolie is already hard at work on her humanitarian work. Was in DC this weekend to touch up with Condi and Colin…is sitting on the panel with other CEOs, VP, CFO at the upcoming Clinton Initiative.

Both Brad and Angelina are doing speeches on their work with kids as part of the Jolie-Pitt Foundation…

If I were Brad…I would say hurry up retirement so that I can spend time discussing things that matter with the people that matter – CEO, VP and CFO.

BlessBrangelina, I’m from Florida & it’s not showing here yet in my City, I will be patiently waiting for the release next month, for sure, I will be there in theater with my husband. I will let you know how the movie will fare with other Brad’s movie, so far, I heard good write ups about the movie. I started collecting Brangelina movies, of course my favorite one is Mr. & Mrs. Smith where they met & fall in love. I hope, they make another movie together, that will be a big bonus for all the fans.

These types of movies are ones I normally LOVE, however, I doubt that I will be able to “buy” Brad in this role. I have seen the trailer and all I kept thinking about was him and his real life relationship w/Angelina. They are WAY overexposed.

Am in Europe so haven’t seen it yet. Can’t wait to hear from Irma or Karen both of whom I think are in Los Angeles, where the film would be opening.

It doesn’t surprise me that LORI would agree with the ravings of someone who hasn’t seen the film and yet has cast something that is on LIMITED release as a failure!

You and your ‘friends’ really need to get over it already, Lori!

^^ he is brad pitt..so he is famous…and he is popular period….he is famous and popular except according to few people who hates his mug/guts because of envy and jealousy…LOL …i rest my case…

    thanks sherry….go back to lurking mode… :-)

Wow Winnie, how you managed to be first on this thread & started bashing Ange & Brad, is unbelievable. First of all, Ange supports Brad, you will see more of her while Brad is promoting his own movie & vice versa, so stop your idiotic comments that she is exploiting Brad’s career. PLEASE. You know they are so in demand & people will always be in awe wherever they go & whatever they do. They are the most popular couple right now in HW, if you don’t see that, you are blind. The Assassination of Jesse James has not been in my City yet but once it gets released here you bet my husband & I will be there to watch & support Brad & Ange. I’m glad that Brad is doing some challenging roles lately that’s maturity & that goes with Ange, their movies lately have been well selected & with high caliber performances. I would say, Brad & Ange are famous & popular, I may added that they are well respected actors & loved by millions of fans.

This is to address what ‘Winnie’ said… I have watched them both promoting the AMH and AJJBCRF… example is the one with Diane Sawyer; he didn’t just start talking about his family, she asked him questions about them.

He can’t be rude and say I won’t answer such questions, look at what happened with the memo during AMH where AJ was slandered by Fox TV because her lawyer wanted it to be about the movie and not their life as a family. Its unfortunate that you ‘winnie’ feels this way but they both have had wonderful careers and will continue to do so whether you like it not… if you have anyone to blame about them talking about their families, then tell the media to stop enquiring about it and make it more about the movies they’re promoting.

    Thanks!

Being famous is not the same as being popular.

  18. By lori

Brad is famous, much more so now because of Angie. He is famous, not popular, A Mighty Heart Flopped, sorry, but that is the truth. I think she has changed and has indeed found her purpose in life with all the adoptions and bringing attention to the Third World countries. Brad has found his purpose by being a father and he truely thinks she is a great prize. They seem happy and I think they will remain so.

  19. By jjoy

^^ ITA….he’s not after the role of the leading man anymore…he’s 44 years old…he knows it and accept it….so he choose movie roles that will showcase his maturing talent not his beautiful mug/presence on the screen…

Haven’t seen the film. but seen long clips. Seems slow and melancholy reminded me of “River runs through it” But Brad seemed so good (really eye catching in western clothing). I think AJ is not only good for him as a partner but inspired him to try and be a better actor. He is growing into a mature, character actor.
