The ladies on The View discussed Republican vice president nominee, Sarah Palin, the spoof on her and Senator Hillary Clinton that aired on the season premiere of Saturday Night Live this past weekend and the allegations that the whole thing was sexist.
Elisabeth Hasselbeck complained that Democratic VP hopeful, Joe Biden, said that, if Palin were elected to the White House, it would be a “backward step for women.” She seemed to agree with that statement and couldn’t understand how electing a woman could possibly set women back. Whoopi Goldberg said that she felt that, since Palin wanted to reverse Roe vs. Wade and stop women from being able to choose to have legal abortions, it could be viewed as a “backward step.” Naturally, Elisabeth disagreed.
They also talked about how people are saying that John McCain and George Bush are similar. Elisabeth argued that they are not the same and that it isn’t fair to say that they are but Joy, Sherri and Whoopi disagreed saying that they have almost the same policies.
Discussion questions:
- Do you think Sarah Palin represents the needs of the average woman?
- Do you think she represents a backward step for women?
- Do you believe McCain and Bush have similar policies?
