Entertainment Weekly’s Michael Ausiello has learned exclusively that USA Network has canceled The Starter Wife, due to low ratings.
While Debra Messing’s six-hour miniseries with the same name attracted more than 5 million viewers and earned Emmy nominations, the ratings for its 10-episode first season earned only 2.4 million viewers.
Compared to Burn Notice and Monk which pull in 6 million, it’s not that good. But compared to most cable shows, it’s not that bad either.
In an exclusive statement to EW.com, USA called Starter Wife a "critical and creative success," and added that the Dec. 12 season finale served as a "satisfying conclusion" to the franchise.
Personally, I was worried about the future of this show when I went to look for information about its upcoming episodes and didn’t find anything at all. But then I kept seeing Debra Messing at awards shows talk about The Starter Wife, and started to have hope.
Hopefully, Debra Messing will find another TV project in the near future.
