Are Jersey Shore’s Ronnie And Sammi The New Heidi And Spencer?

The third season of  The Jersey Shore is coming to MTV this month, and with it, a new cast member named Deena, who is Snooki‘s BFF and likes showing Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino her cooch. But there’s something more inexplicable than Deena’s Jersey cowgirl striptease. And that is the fact that Sammi and Ronnie are still together.

After last season’s debacle involving their relationship and everyone covering up Ronnie’s cheating, it seems clear that Ronnie should have given up on him by now. But recent public events show them still together. Leaving a big question unanswered: Does this relationship exist solely for the cameras? Furthermore: Is Sammi starting fights in the third season of Jersey Shore in some sort of Spencer Pratt PR maneuver?

At the reunion show for last season, Sammi admitted that she got played by Ronnie all season. And then explained why she took him back anyway:

“I think he is actually really trying to show me the good instead of the bad. That’s what I hold on to all the time.”

Meanwhile, Sammi was by Ronnie’s side in Times Square on New Year’s. And at his birthday bash in December:

“Ronnie and Sammi were never seen more than an arms-length apart from one another the entire evening.”

Why does this relationship continue? Well, here’s one reason. Alone, they’re not the biggest draw for viewers. MTV has not revealed the salary breakdown for The Jersey Shore, but the major breakout stars from the show so far have been Snooki, JWOWW, The Sitch and Pauly D.

Pauly D just got a greenlight for his own show, and just today, Snooki hit 1 million followers on Twitter. Combined, Ronnie and Sammi have around 400,000 followers. As a pair, they have a built in storyline and drama. As singles, they may not be as important to MTV. Also, if trailers for the upcoming season are any indication, Sammi has turned up her adrenaline/fighting capacity since season 1.

But if Heidi and Spencer’s time on The Hills is any indication, Sammi and Ronnie should be careful how they play their cards in regards to their relationship/fighting on camera. Their spats were getting tired last season. Viewers may not be up for more this seasons. And there’s also a lesson to be learned from The Hills‘ favorite villain. Now that the show has ended, Heidi and Spencer are  bankrupt and desperately trying to scrape their way back into the spotlight. Being a reality TV heel does not always pay off.
