Aretha Franklin Upset by Beyoncé?

Wow!  When I heard Beyoncé refer to Tina Turner as the “Queen” the other night, something struck me but I wasn’t sure what it was.  Now I know – the “Queen” is usually the title bestowed upon Aretha Franklin who was honored at the Grammy Awards the other night.  Apparently, she was not pleased by Bey referring to another artist as the “Queen” and has let it be known.  Whoopi Goldberg of The View summed it up nicely when she said that, if writers had been working on it (they couldn’t because of the writers strike), they would have caught it.  It was a simple mistake and I don’t think it’s malicious.  Some of you may not even see it as a mistake but, since Aretha was being honored that weekend, I do understand why it upset her.

I didn’t exactly agree with Bey’s father, Mathew Knowles, who seemed to just get overly defensive.  Watch the video and tell me what you think!

no I agree w/ Matthew. Aretha can’t get mad when anybody is called the “Queen”. She is titled the “Queen of Soul” not the Queen. Please Aretha and Tina don’t even sing the same type of music. Was it not enough that Aretha was the 2nd person mentioned in Bey’s tribute to African American Women who she admired and aspired to be like when she grew up? I mean really! It seems like a plubicity stunt by the Queen of soul if you ask me. Plus did anyone know that it was Beyonce who asked Ms. TT to do the tribute w/ her? Ms. TT said it herself on E!

  2. Beyoncé and Jay-Z at Grammy After Party – Video

[...] Here’s a video that included a really quick word from Beyoncé and Jay-Z about what they thought of the Grammy Awards.  Interestingly, they also talked to Aretha Franklin whose crankiness was showing (I think).  You may already know but Aretha is not happy about something Bey said during the ceremony.  Click here to find out more! I believe it was a misunderstanding between both parties I can see both sides because (no pun intended )I am the Queen of misunderstandings myself, *SIDE #1* if i were Aretha sitting front row and center hearing someone saying “get on your feet for the queen!” i may think that maybe i might have pissed off ‘B’ in some way and she changed her opinion of me, or its some kind of diss toward me. *SIDE#2* if i was beyonce i would feel as if i am in the pressance of a queen anytime im around one of my idols be it Aretha,Tina,Natale,Gladys, who ever.

i would have saved all confusion and said “give it up for A true diva y’all!” (or) “please welcome one of the original Queens of rock and Soul”
