The keffiyah is a symbol of the palestinian people, not a symbol of terrorism. But while we’re on the subject, let’s not forget that Israel was created in a massive ethnic cleansing that began not in may 1948, but in december 1947, and lasted for 5 months before any arab armies intervened. 750,000 people were driven from their homes and lands by violence and terror and never allowed to return, contrary to many UN resolutions. The ethnic cleansing that began with the terrorist irgun and stern gang militias in 1947 continues today through the laws and customs of the “jewish state” of israel. The only state today which is not the state of it’s citizens, but the state of the jewish race. What would you say if I wanted to start my own state for the “white race”? Would that be acceptable? In israel today, arabs are second and third class citizens, and of course there is no such thing as equal rights in israel or even israeli citizenship. Your government issued card says either “jew” or “arab”, and arabs are constantly being harrassed, humiliated, their homes demolished, their family members randomly murdered (with utter impunity) and right now, the settlers in the west bank are busy scrawling signs which read “arabs to the gas chambers” all over the country side. This is racism plain and simple, and if we continue to turn a blind eye, it will rapidly deteriorate into genocide, and this time, we will be the good germans that enabled it to happen. In short, we wear the keffiyah not because we approve of terrorism, but because we don’t approve of racism and genocide, and we won’t stand by silently and watch it happen again. You had better stop worrying about ashley simpson and start worrying about why you don’t have a keffiyah yourself.

Unfortunately, anyone condemming the Keffiyeh on the grounds of it being associated with ‘terrorist sympthaizers’ is just as ignorant as the people they condemn. The keffiyeh is a headress. The black-and-white patterend keffiyeh is SOMETIMES associated with Palestenian heritage & solidarity. The only other colour representative of a culture’s struggle is the red-and-black which is SOMETIMES associated with Jordan. The first best known westerner wearing the scarf was T.E. Lawrence (Lawrence of Arabia, anyone?)

Please don’t listen to idiot remarks made by uneducated people and jump on the hate train. If you hear something, research it, don’t just immediately believe everything you hear. Crazy Americans.

To the writer of the blog… I definitely sympathize with your association for the loved ones you have lost, but blaming/associating their deaths with a symbol of strength/what has become a fashion statement (wartime ALWAYS shapes fashion, this is why YOU wear a t-shirt or why people wear khakis) is letting their deaths be in vain, and letting the people who hurt them win by disinformation and fear, which is what terrorism is all about.

um, I like things that cover the face. I like balaclavas, ski masks, shemaghs, kefiyahs, scarves, those face masks you use when you’re handling insulation, hockey masks, paint ball masks, and a couple masks I made in art class that looked pretty cool.

am a white american man who works as a loader for a store that sells heavy things (hardware store), and I go to college part time (almost done). I play video games like Punisher, Ghost Recon 2, Hitman Blood Money, Postal 2, GTA San Andreas, GUN, Splinter Cell Double Agent, and Call of Duty 4. I collect airsoft guns that resemble military weapons, and I collect knives and some swords.
I am learning Korean, German, and I hope to learn russian and arabic. I don’t hang out with people too much, and sometimes I find high schoolers in my area to be brainless (when your teacher writes more referals than grades, you’ll understand)…
my point is…
does all that make me a potential terrorist? seriously! you have people who wear baggy pants, you associate them with rap and gang violence. you see a trench coat, and you pair it with columbine. you see a hockey mask, and put it with jason movies.

this needs to stop. I like trech coats, artificial guns, knives meant for combat, swords from varying cultures, languages spoken by people we once shot at in an official standing, and I’ve even met people of those races and nationalities. they’re pretty cool (except for North Koreans).

to be honest, I don’t like the act of turning a rifle against a human being and competing with him in hopes of killing him before he kills me. But seriously, all the coolest things in the world are gonna have a dark side to them.

You people put too much damn thought into this…it’s a scarf and happens to be popular at the moment. She probably has no idea of it’s significance. I do agree with what ‘Panic’ said about bringing more hate into the world. Don’t make assumptions on the actions of celebrities or anyone else at that matter…who are you to judge in the first place??

The scarf is very popular here in Europe. I live in Spain, where it is worn by the majority of young people, whom are far from terrorists. They are causing no harm to anyone.

I’m sorry that when you see this it reminds you of terrorists, but that doesn’t mean that it reminds everyone else…

BTW..Mary-Kate Olsen has been seen wearing one in purple…I have yet to hear anything about her.
