Reports of the demise of Ashley Jensen’s time on Ugly Betty might be a little exaggerated.
According to Access Hollywood, a representative of the show has told them that the reports are “not true”. (Hat tip: miss waiching liu) Of course, one of the reports came from this site.
So which is true? Is Jensen leaving Ugly Betty, or is she staying? I think it’s fair to say that no one outside of the actual players knows the truth. I have no reason to believe that EOnline’s Kristin Dos Santos (my original source for the news) was actually told what she reported about Jensen. I also have no reason to believe this rep for Ugly Betty is lying.
I have a pretty good guess as to what’s really going on. I’ve seen this before, being a big sports fan. I’d say that the media is being played as a negotiation ploy. Remember when EW’s Ausiello said that an Ugly Betty star was asking for more money because of the move to NY, and that we’d be surprised when we found out who it was?
I’m beginning to believe it was (and is) Jensen. If so, it would appear that one side is playing hardball by leaking not-yet-true info to the press.
Anyway, if what this rep says is true, this is good news indeed. Many, many of us would greatly miss Jensen’s Scottish quips and warm smile.
Is Ashley leaving or not? We’ll just have to wait and see.

IIRC, Ausiello reported that one person did not want to move because they had just bought a house, while another cast member was asking for a pay hike. I’m assuming Ashley was the former, so it must have been someone else asking for more money. Whatever happens, I hope Ashley gets some more screen time because she’s the only reason I watch the show!
i was really worried that the previous story would turn out to be true. either way, i want this situation cleared up and for ashley to stay on the show and for silvio and the other writers to give her character more storylines, more screentime and more interaction with the other cast members because she is such an underrated talent. as much as we praise the efforts of america, becki and michael to name, ashley’s shouldn’t go unnoticed either.
we still want to find out what ashley’s reasons are behind this: is it the travelling from LA to NY? is it because she is unhappy with the lack of screentime she is getting? is it because she is paid less compared to the likes of america?
as for reports stemming that one person didn’t want to move to NY, i’m presuming this actually refers back to chris gorham and/or freddy rodriguez.

Considering that America is the lead of the show, and if America wanted to leave the show might as well pack since changing the would plunge viewership, Ashley asking for equal pay to her is outrageous. If she’s asking for more money, that could be understandable.
If she’s asking for an outrageous amount, than I could see why ABC is not automatically caving after they had to axe 2 of their shows, and budget was the issue for Pushing Daises. If she is asking for too much and decides to leave, well I would hope that her part in giving birth to the child would be played out. It would be a bit disappointing that Betty wouldn’t have a friend that doesn’t have some ulterior motives.
