Ask the Readers: What happened to the Horcrux in Chamber of Secrets?

I just got an email from Mishka, a Gryffindor Gazette reader; let’s see if any of you smart Harry Potter fans can answer this one:

I have a Harry Potter question but was not sure where to post it or look for the answer. So here goes – When Harry was bitten by the basilisk in Chamber of Secrets, why wasn’t the Horcrux element within him destroyed? If you have heard this question and know where I might find that answer, that would be great.

Okay guys! What do you think? And by the way, if YOU have a Harry Potter question that you want to have posted to the hive mind, please don’t hesitate to write me at wendy@b5media.com. I’ll be sure to post it!

UPDATE: Okay, smarties! Thanks for answering. Here’s your answers, let’s vote on the best one!

You guys are GREAT!

    wo..reli gd question

OMG thats actually a great question. I kinda have an answer though. Basalisk venom can be countered by Pheonix tears so maybe when fawkes cried on Harry’s wound he sorta repaired it? I dunno it might have been destroyed already though. SO CONFUSINGGG

    good question.

i just watched chamber of secrets today for the like 10th time.

i think it could have something to do with the blood voldemort took from harry.

im still confused about alot of harry potter things.

but i don’t really know the answer.

In Deathly Hallows, when Hermione was talking about the horcuxes, she mentions that there are the basillsk venom can be countered by very very rare phoenix tears. So, I agree with Katie, in saying that phoenix tears have nullified the effect of the basillisk venom. So, the horcrux was not destroyed

Phew! I can live with that! Thanks everyone:)

I think the answer is that; for the Horcrux in him to die, Harry had to die.
The phoenix tears saved Harry and so the Horcrux was “saved”.

Harry dies when Voldemort Avada Kedavra’d him. The only thing that held him to this world was the blood connection in Voldemort.

    Hi Wendy!

I think a have the answer for the question of Whiska….I think the reason why the Horcrux inside of Harry wasn’t destroyed when the basilisk bitten him it’s because Harry was safe from the tears of Funsek (the phoenix) and for destroyed the horcrux Harry have to die. I hope you will understand the way I say it…By the way, great job with your blog!

One assumes that horcrux was not destroyed, to destroy an horcrux you have to destroy the conteiner (an objet or body), if not, you can’t destroy the Horcrux.

If the conteiner is save, the “Horcrux” is save (Hermione said: with the Horcrux is on the contrary that the human body that stays the soul even though the human body is destroyed).

Harry (the body) was saved, the horcrux was saved!

Yah. I think that the horcrux was saved by Fawkes’s tears. That is a really good question though, I never really though of that. And for Katie, isn’t that dying creature under the seats at King’s Cross station the horcrux, if so, then it can’t have already died.
