Footage of Miley Cyrus smoking out of a bong leaked last week, and the entire celeb-universe is acting like the Disney star is one Jonas-brother-snub away from a trip to Betty Ford. When the reality of situation is that Miley’s 18 and salvia is legal. Smoking a little pot — or having a few drinks or even giving a lap dance — is normal teenage behavior and it doesn’t necessarily indicate some horrific larger problem.
Remember when Mike Huckabee was running for president and claimed he’d never once tried beer? And the general reaction was to be vaguely weirded out by this? Because this was a grown man — a leader at that — who’d never had basic, universal experiences. Is that what we expect from Miley? That just because she was once a child star she should never be allowed to become an experienced adult? Universal everything expert Dr. Drew, for one, seems to think our girl’s experiencing some kind of deep psychological disaster:
“We know that she’s going to be acting out now because her family’s in trouble, so it’s not unusual to see depression manifesting as various kinds of acting out behaviors. Adolescents don’t get depressed the way adults do. They don’t get sad and cry and withdraw. They often act out and become irritable, they act out with drugs and… get in trouble and she seems to be suffering”
She seems to be suffering or there’s a possibility she could conceivably be suffering? There’s a difference, Dr. Drew! Implying that anyone who makes moderate use of a mild intoxicant is spinning wildly out of control is a dangerous road to take. What would you say if you found out my my cousin, a college sophomore, drank a can of Four Loko? Would that indicate suffering and depression? Because I’m pretty sure Laura’s fine!
This isn’t to say Miley’s necessarily in the clear for life. Child stardom’s a tough thing for anyone to escape unscathed, and there’s no way to say definitively that Miley won’t one day end up linked to a lady DJ, pledging to start a rehab facility for other wayward Disney stars. The point here is that this video of Miley smoking a legal drug amongst friends (except for that jerk who leaked the footage) isn’t evidence that Miley’s on some kind of downward spiral. So take that, Dr. Drew.

um…she’s supposed to be a role-model, teen-pop disney girl. If she doesn’t get a reality check, she’s going to lose a lot of credibility. That’s why her “I’ll do the best I can” speech has gone defunct and everyone is talking about this incident.
Who cares, salvia is awesome, it’s not a big deal. Miley is 18 and it’s legal. I feel sorry for you people who AREN’T opening your mind to amazing things like salvia. Everyone should try it while it’s legal.
As much as I am a big fan of Miley’s. I just don’t want to see her taking the wrong path in life. I just hope she learned from his mistakes. I’m praying for you Miley.
Those aren’t your friends Miley. Get away from them, especially the hater holding the camera and wanting you to do more. God bless you and I am praying for you. Hopefully this little episode is a wake up call and a thing of the past for you.
Honestly? I pity Miley. She’s going through a lot of pain and confusion right now. The world should just leave Miley alone.
This reminds me of that episode of the Canadian teens show where they all get high off a non-drug substance because they think they’re supposed to.
For me the creepiest part of this is the way her “friends” are egging her on, hoping to create a more sensational video.
who cares, u dont know shit, miley probably does worse shit then this, so think b4 u post shit
