Ausiello’s Ugly Betty Tempest In A Teapot

America Ferrera films a scene with co-star, Eric Mabius for Ugly Betty in NYC. I love EW’s Ausiello.  He is one of the most reliable sources for spoilers, rumors, and breaking hard news about Ugly Betty (and all other TV shows).

And he’s my hero because he’s the best I’ve ever seen at framing a story to get maximum buzz (Remember ‘Henry 2.0”?).

He’s done it again.

This post has people going nuts.

Why?  First, the title: “Exclusive: ‘Ugly Betty’ pretty close to Betty-Daniel romance”.  He then adds this:  “…In fact, series creator Silvio Horta confirms for me that he may take a page from the show’s source material and explore a romance between Betty and her boss.”

Whoa there – this is HUGE, you might say.

I then read his quotes from Silvio Horta and said, “What the?”

About Betty/Daniel: “We’ve been batting around the idea,” he confesses. “It is not outside the realm of possibility that something [could] happen, but we’re not sure yet.”

About Henry: “I think there is a place for him to come back in some way,” Horta says. “But I don’t know if them being together at the end is what’s going to happen.”

Then Horta says what’s obvious to anyone who has followed Ugly Betty since season 1: “There’s a chunk of people who won’t be happy with whatever we do,” Horta sighs. “You’re always going to piss somebody off.”

And that’s IT.  Now, Horta may have told Ausiello something that he decided not to post, but the quotes from Horta are nothing we haven’t heard before.

It’s the same coach-speak I told you about earlier.  Lots of “mays” and “mights”. Lord bless Ausiello, he knows how to stir ‘em up.

I’m beginning to wonder, based on some of the quotes I’ve seen from Horta and other Ugly Betty writers/producers, if they won’t end up going with MY idea for the Detty finale.  (With a romance, a proposal, a rebuff, and a declaration of eternal friendship).  If they end with Daniel and Betty walking into the sunset arm in arm to the tune of Jimmy Soul’s “If You Want To Be Happy”, my Ugly Betty experience will have been complete.

If they go that direction, the least they could do is invite me to the series wrap party. :)

I loved the new episode tonight. That was brilliant of Claire! Did you guys notice how a Betty painting of Matt’s resembled Darth Vader? I wonder if that’s subtle foreshadowing of his eventual character. Do you think Wilhemina will be the one to tell Daniel about South Dakota?
I was kinda hoping the son would be Gio personally. That would have been earth shattering!
Can you imagine, were there to be a Betty and Daniel dynamic he finding out her… Gio is his *brother?!* That would make perfect sense to me except its never been explained Claire’s upbringing so that would have to be established maybe reflecting on Angela Bower having had a son Johnathon on Who’s The Boss? The exec powers that be would crap all over that though because that could never happen in *this* Ugly Betty world. The cultures would have to remain separate or risk integration overshadowing homosexuality ala’ the reality of circa 1980’s western Heavy Metal machismo. B)-~~~ A bit of rewriting history here, hmm?

lol – we really should’ve gotten a betting pool started on that Denise character, dogsled. ;D Your comment about cheap perfume is hilarious, too. I think that’s the effect UB wanted with the character, and it looks like it worked!

Wow! This topic was all over the internet on Wednesday when the show premiered in its new timeslot! The show would be foolish to not follow up on this topic (either in the show or in an interview) after it has garnered such widespread attention. If it doesn’t, then Silvo kind of risks being seen as someone who was just making up claims in order to get ratings (which is probably the case).

As much of a Detty fan as I am, I think that it is important to be realistic. So far, we know what is going to happen up to episode 12 which means that there are 10 more episodes where we don’t know what is going to happen. Considering the ratings last night, if the ratings don’t improve, this will definitely be the last season of Ugly Betty. I honestly don’t think that they could make a Detty relationship believable with 10 more episodes. With that said, I sadly don’t think that it will happen and I really prefer them to both be alone at the end than to have a Detty relationship rushed- both of the characters don’t deserve that.

If this is the last season for Ugly Betty, I think that the scenario that is most likely to happen is that Matt comes back at the end and him and Betty get back together. This would be the most realistic since their relationship is already established and getting together with him would not involve Betty going backwards to her former boyfriends. This is the scenario that I think the writers would favor, even though it is one that I don’t exactly favor. I think that the comments made by Silvio in Ausiello’s column on Thursday were made under the assumption that they would have another season in which case they wouldn’t need Matt since they can develop something else next season.

My preferences for Betty: Daniel is my first choice and her ending up as a single woman is a REALLY, REALLY close second choice since I love the idea of it.
