Was there ever a more disposable genre of music?

Glam?

Goth whinge-rock?

Pop?

While there are individual standouts in any genre, most of it is pretty disposable really.

Ahh yes, never underestimate the power of regional voting. Thinking about it, that probably will be on Lana's side.

I think what I appreciated about Marty was that he made the arrangement work for him. Really what he did was no different to what Bobby Flynn did virtually every week last year - take a song from the genre and use your musical ability to deliver something that suits you. Last week Carl tried to make something that wasn't really a rock song a bit swing, and he failed dismally. But this actually sounded really good - and I think being able to arrange something that well elevates it beyond just being a copout. In some ways it must be harder to arrange something so cleverly.

To be honest with you, I'm not familiar with Earth Wind and Fire's cover version of "Got to Get You Into My Life," so I don't know whether Matt's interpretation veered too closely to The Beatles one. I'm prepared to forgive him though because I think disco is a pretty ridiculous theme. Was there ever a more disposable genre of music?

I think it'll be down to Jacob and Lana, and as Lana has the Perth thing going for her she'll probably survive.

I wasn't so impressed by Marty and Matt. Hot Chocolate are great, but doing the reggae thing felt like a bit of a copout. And Matt's effort felt more Beatles than disco to me, I think he should've chosen something a little more unambiguous.
