Avril Lavigne Concert Tickets Sell Out in 15 Minutes

Avril Lavigne_CameraTickets for Avril Lavigne’s August 5 show at Sudbury Arena sold out in just 15 minutes!!!  Many fans lined up outside the arena for as long as the night before they went on sale, only to be disappointed when the tickets sold out online.  A small controversy surrounds the concert, since arena staff and city councilors were given the chance to get their tickets first.

What do you think?  Should people involved in planning and production of the concert be able to get access to tickets early?

That’s a tough issue; whether or not city councilors and arena staff should get first ‘dibs’ on the tix. I think there’s something to be said for arena staff/performers in the show having an opportunity for family/friends to get tix. However, the number of tix available to these people need to be reasonable and be proportionate to the net number of tix available for the show (eg: a 1/3 of all tix shouldn’t go to fans with ‘connections’). Perhaps 1-2 tix per staff/performer ought to be reserved for family/friends. I think that city councilors are a different issue and my intuitions lean towards saying that they should not be given preferential opportunities for getting tix over the rest of the fans.
