I thought this article by Benjamin Radford was really interesting:
In June, a psychic offered information in the case of Lisa Stebic, a 37-year-old mother of two missing since April 30. The psychic claimed that Stebic would be found in Silver Springs State Park. The family endured a “roller coaster” of emotions as police and volunteers searched the park for Stebic’s remains.
It turns out that Lisa wasn’t there and the family once more was back to square one, while volunteers wasted hours searching in the wrong place. Sylvia Browne and several others have popped up pretty regularly recently with false information. Seriously, I think fake mediums need to tell fortunes at local fairs and carnivals instead of promoting themselves as true psychics and messing up or delaying missing persons investigations. How do you feel about people who have been wrong over and over again still involving themselves in these serious cases? Should the media even give bad psychics press?

Sylvia Browne is the WORST.
Oh, I can’t wait to hear what JCW has to say! Come out, come out, wherever you are JCW!
Seriously, I do think there are these fakes who ruin the credibility of the real thing, because it seems the fakes are the one who toot their own horn constantly and get the press while the real deal usually just keep quiet and help when asked to do so.
On the Court TV Channel, they have a show called “Psychic Detective” and have real stories of police departments that have called in psychics to help solve crimes. Just like we see with the character of Allison Dubois on Medium, the information they get is open to interpreptation, for example, one psychic explained she may get an image of “15″, but she doesn’t know if that means 1.5 or 15 or is it time or miles, or what exactly. It was quite interesting. Of course, there are sceptics among the police departments, but they usually come around after these psychics come up with info that does prove to be correct and that no one else could have known. These psychics are not people that are on TV or the talk show circuit.
IMHO, the ones who seek to become rich through publicity are usually the fakes.
Sylvia Brown ticks me off completely. I’ve seen Montel. Apparently, says my friend who doesn’t… No, hasn’t spoken a lie to me yet, and said her mothers friend went on Montel and asked for her future to be read. Sylvia said all this crap, that apparently came true. I don’t believe one word of it.
If you have a gift of being psychic, you don’t expect it. You’re not on a long life path to find your psychic abilities, because you may not have them. You would probably experience it unexpectedly, instead of seeking it out. That would be a true psychic, too me. It’s like, and I know this is a crappy comparison, Harry Potter. He never knew he was a wizard. He always experienced weird things throughout his life, until he found out that everything that he was experiencing was because of the fact he was a wizard.
Hey Luke,
I read your post. I understand why their are so many skeptics out there, then again, I am also confused by the amount that have really strong opinions without the research.
First, really no such thing as a true psychic prediction. But a talented psychic can give how the person is heading at the moment. If the person decides to change the heading the prediction changes. Free will and all.
As far as the Harry Potter comparison, I get what you are saying but, since it’s not Hollywood, people can be truly gifted but not understand how to develop it. Picture a kid who has an amazing ability in music, can hear it in his head but never had an instrument. Then one day they get the piano and develop. Faster than maybe many others.
I am a Clairvoyant/Medium. It is very interesting to see, feel and hear what I do. I went through long periods of doubt and confusion. So I get why you would have doubt and confusion around this area.
I ask people not to give me any information so I can’t be accused of cold readings. Plus, I do many over the phone so I can’t read the body language. From the feedback, my ability to hear from the divine universe is pretty accurate.
Does this help?
Hey Luke….YOU ARE SOOOOOOOOO RIGHT!
“The Gift!” is not ON CALL it just comes and you have no control over it….sometimes you get a real basketfull of info on someone and then there are times you just draw a blank….and you never know when it is coming…
and just like Michele, I do a lot over the phone so there is no way to “FAKE” anything. And I have been so accurate at times that it confounds me. It just comes. The only thing I get that really disturbs me is when I see a hot spot on someone and know that they need to see a doctor….cuz I cant fix anything.
or when I see an aura that is squiggly ….that is when death is pretty close and the color is like almost grey…but with some pink like a Mauve color….you know when you have no control over something and you cant stop or fix it…that can get to ya….
I held a baby’s hand one time and cried for three days….
and I refuse to tell anyone something sad…there is just no blessing in that…..
my job is to make you smile, and show you how to be optimistic and strive to better yourself and those around you. Maybe give you a clue to trying something different, or teach you to pray the right way….
A gift is just that…a gift….and should be used as such…and shared to make others happy.
I still cannot believe that people do not realize that this is evil these so called mediums. The Bible tells us so and yet we continue to do this. Why they can sense and see stuff is because it is a demon doing this. All I can say is people need to concentrate on God and not on Demonic activities they just open up doorways for demons to enter.
Marlene; honestly? Really?
If being psychic is such a bad thing, then how do you suppose the Bible was even constructed? I mean, it speaks of events that are to happen, or have predicted things to happen before its time, and it has happened.
Do you call that ‘demonic’?
