On Tuesday, ABC will be airing its “10 Most Fascinating People of 2005″ special, in which Tom Cruise is interviewed by Barbara Walters. Among the topics they cover, the “silent-birth” rumor (Tom says its “nutty”), and the couch-jumping incident on Oprah (Tom says he’ll always be jumping on couches and that all men should jump on couches, we agree). Charlotte.com covers the special.

I saw that interview, but me think Tom threw out the word nutty in response to the comment to cover up the nuttiness of Scientology. Most of the world think it’s a bit too freakish as it is.
Not trying to stir the stink pot, but here is some of what I read following that interview with Tom. I went back and pulled them to post here for conversation sake

What is a “Silent Birth”?
In the book, Dianetics, L. Ron Hubbard writes that for the benefit of the mother and child, silence should be maintained during childbirth. This is because any words spoken are recorded in the reactive mind and can have an aberrative effect on the mother and the child.
Here’s another interesting read with quotes from Kelly Preston – known for her and her husbands Scientology practice as well:

And while I’m not going to defend Scientology I will say this: Strip away all the Judeo-Christian centrism and Scientology is really not that much weirder than the “major” religions. At least there’s no symbolic canibalism or vamprism. Or penis cutting… And again, this isn’t to defend Scientology or denigrate any other religion, just to point out the double standard in labelling Tom “batshit” for believing in it, while accepting walking on water and water to wine, wine to blog transmogrification. TomKat is not hurting anyone and in fact Scientology has a better record when it comes to religion-inspired violence historically. And I wonder what they have to say about Gay Rights… [...]
