“Be your own star” is the tag line of Avril Lavigne’s new perfume Black Star. In keeping with that spirit, Avril’s fragrance website (avril-lavigne-perfumes.com) offers fans the chance to get involved. One way is to earn Black Star points by doing various things on the website. Users can also upload any photo of theirs to make their own poster on the website itself. There are also downloads and a user community.
Perhaps the highlight of the website is Avril’s on blog on the creation of Black Star. On it, she observes, “Black Star is all about being edgy and feminine. We worked with really cool and different ingredients. We found a way to work some dark chocolate, black plum and pink Hibiscus into the fragrance.”
The Black Star fragrance itself comes in many forms, including a deodorant spray, traditional perfume spray, body lotion and shower gel. They can be used together to compliment one another or used individually.
On November 20, 2009, Avril unveiled the newest opportunity for fans on her Facebook page. She is holding a YouTube contest for the fragrance, The winner gets a new wardrobe for the new year. All that the fan has to do is to submit his or her video singing any of Avril’s songs, singles or not, onto YouTube. After only a day of having posted the contest on Facebook, she already had almost 4,000 people expressing that they like this opportunity.
To continue with the theme of providing fans with star treatment, there’s more to simply the fragrance to each bottle. There’s also a surprise in each and every bottle. There’s a studded ring that can be used on a chain around one’s neck, for display or used in any way one wants. Use it to express your own star power. As Avril herself stated, “I really love combinations like pink and black and fun accessories like stars and studs. And so this is what you will see in my perfume bottle. The studded ring you see on the bottle is actually a removable ring which you can wear or hang around a necklace. The box was inspired by my studded bracelets and belts.
