Beowulf Reactions

Thus far, Beowulf has done quite well in theaters and has gotten some pretty good reviews. By request, here’s a place for all of you PittWatch readers to leave your own personal reactions to the film and share your opinions after seeing the film. I haven’t been able to see it yet, unfortunately, so until I get the chance I’ll enjoy reading your thoughts.

Be warned though, before you venture into the comments here. If you’ve read Beowulf (I loved it, one of the best English assignments ever), then you’ll know most of the story, but if you’re not familiar with it, there may be spoilers within the comments, so be careful if you don’t want someone spilling the beans!

Go forth, comment, tell us what you thought!

(The photo, which is from here, shows Angelina Jolie during the filming. So cool!)

i read the book for class and believe that it was one of the worst poem/books that i’ve ever read. it was boring and i didn’t understand it. then my class watched the movie and it became a little clearer to me, but according to my classmates, the movie was changed a lot from the poem. overall, even though the movie wasn’t the best, i liked it SO much better than the slow paced, boring poem

I have both read the poem and seen the movie Beowulf. I liked the movie a lot better than the book. There were a lot of changes made going from the poem to the movie, but i think they were needed. I like having Angelina Jolie in the movie as Grendel’s mother, even though her character wasn’t in the poem as much as she was in the moive. It showed women having a bigger role in the movie than the poem and i liked that a lot! (go women!) I liked the movie because of the changes and wish the poem had been more like the movie.
