HBO just had a press release announcing that Beyoncé Knowles is officially performing at president-elect Barack Obama’s inauguration, entitled “We Are One: The Obama Inaugural Celebration at the Lincoln Memorial.” Isn’t that exciting?!
The 56th presidential inauguration is going to be presented exclusively by HBO on Sunday, January 18, 2009 at 7-9pm ET. The event is free and open to the public, making it the most accessible inauguration in history.
It will be executive produced by George Stevens Jr. who did "The Kennedy Center Honors.” It’s going to be produced by Don Mischer, in charge of the Olympic ceremonies, and Michael Stevens is also writing the special. Obama opens more doors as the first neighborhood inaugural ball will be held on the eve of his inauguration.
We’ll see performances by wonderful acts. Performers include Beyonce, Mary J. Blige, Bono, Garth Brooks, Sheryl Crow, Renee Fleming, Josh Groban, Herbie Hancock, Heather Headley, John Legend, Jennifer Nettles, John Mellencamp, Usher Raymond IV, Shakira, Bruce Springsteen, James Taylor, will.i.am and Stevie Wonder.
Jamie Foxx, Martin Luther King III, Queen Latifah and Denzel Washington will be reading historical passages and the Rt. Reverend V. Gene Robinson will give the invocation.
Also, HBO is working with their distributors to make sure that everyone who has access to cable, telcos or satellite TV will be able to view the event.
Don’t miss it guys! This show sounds like it’s gonna be great. I can’t tell you how excited I am!
