Beyoncé to Testify for Destiny’s Child in Song Copyright Case

Next month, Beyoncé will hit the witness stand, where she will testify in a copyright case, started by songwriter, Rickey Allen. The song that is being disputed over is Destiny’s Child’s single, “Cater 2 U.” 50628a1_1_destinys_ch_bg_04

Allen  says he wrote a song by the same name in the 1990s and that the DC song even hold lyrical similarities to his.

Destiny released the song in 2004 off of Destiny Fulfilled. Allen’s lawyer said, "Do we say [Beyonce's] responsible for copying? Yes. But there’s no such thing as innocent copying, even if it’s unintentional.  The jury will decide the notion that these are simple coincidences."

Similar lyrics from the songs include Allen saying: "I want to rub you down,"  and then DC sings,"Want a foot rub?"

Allen says, "The tub has hot steam rising," and DC says, "I’m waiting to soak your body through” and "Let me run your bath water."

What do you guys think of this?! Hopefully, there isn’t too much drama here.

Beyonce and Destiny’s Child settled out of court on 12/3/09 and paid an undisclosed amount to Rickey Allen. Thus, there must have been some truth to this lawsuit. Congrats Mr. Allen!!! No one should steal another person’s work even if that person is an “A” listed star.
